There was a hacking incident recently at my college. Someone at the college used a spoofing program to cover their hacking tracks up with my Mac address and Ip address... with all leads pointing to me the IT dept. was completely stumped (they're morons, i don't even have a degree and i could run the network better). However word got out of the hackings and 2 people who didn't like me.... went and said i was hacking... the ip's and mac addresses matched up to the DHCP server so here i am prolly saying hello and goodbye for the last time...

well dude sorry to hear about all that. whoever investigates should be able to see that even if they used the server under your IP and stuff that it didn't actually happened from your console. if you get someone that actually knows what they're doing like say an expert of that type of network. then they can break it down and see taht it wasn't from your station and actually possibly trace it back to the other people. i know it can at least be proven that it wasn't you. if i was you i would hire a good lawyer and get someone to look it over.

i have a good lawyer... and i know who was doing it... but it's the fact the IT dept. "Lost" the records and only have the ones showing my ips and shit... so i'm taking the raps.

Well if the some of the stuff is "lost", they only substantal evidence nothing to actually out in the place and time of the hacking, sound like they have nothing really solid, except for the address so that can not prove anything.

I will talk to my brother about, computer engineer, has done some hacking he knows the ropes, and the laws, I will see what he suggests.

well i jsut wrote a big reply and it got screwed up. but heres the jist of things.

even if records were lost a very good professional can still get on your console and look up anything you've ever done on it and see that you didn't do anything. i know this is possible b/c my old Cisco Networking teacher did it for the army base here for a guy that was looking at kiddie porn. even though he erased it everything is still on his harddrive. or soemthing like that. the point is he was able to still look everything up.

and since you know who actually did it then you could possibly get a court order to have their computer investigated as well and clear your name that way. but bluesheep has a good point too. sounds to me like you di have a very good case though.

heres the catch.. i had hacking software on my pc... unused... but they illegally obtained my pc and used a "Theft by deception" .... i'm not worried about jail soo much at this point after talking to a lawyer and them again... but i think i'm still expelled.

I'm an It major... or was... i dunno yet... all i know is they have my pc... being investigated... and if they look at the tools used that i had nothing ... i just think i'm being expelled for possession of hacking tools... or "Making the IT guys look like asses"

What kind of software did you have?
What kind of hacking was done... where did they hack, what did they do?

i had Steganos Hacking Utilities and Cain. However Cain was the program used. it wasn't used maliciously. I talked to the admin at the school i think that they're just going to expel me and thats it.
