Tacho Problem

Post by chris2511 »

Ok, guys, i know there a lot of threads about the 1.5L Lanos tacho problem, but i really need help on it. I did the wiring like Tim (ubuyau) did, to the point, and i get no reading at all when i hook my tacho wire up to the trigger wire, yet when i put my multimeter to the trigger wire and increase my revs when in neutral, it goes up and up like the wire works, so im totally confused, and i have no clue what to do next, i was hoping someone could help me, also i hooked my tacho up to my stereo power line so the tacho is only on when the acc is on, but u can put the tacho on when everything is off. Anyway please help so we can finally figure out this problem.

Chris.

Well so the tach may be defective? and as long as the power feed wire is hot while the car is on, then it should work fine,

the tacho might have a setting for useing it on a 8, 6, or 4 cylinder. if its in the 8 cylinder setting it will be half signal. look to see if it has different settings

Also i ran a lead from my stereo power to the tacho, so i have power only when the car is on acc or on, but it gives power anyway, even when the car is off and the key isnt in the ignition, so where is a power line i can access that is only on when the car is switched to the on position, as i think this may be the main problem, since the manual says the tacho must have power only when the car is switched to the on position.

guys who have done this went through many corses... some got OEM cluster and direct swapped it, some used Diod method and some used resistors to rectify the signal.

the funny thing is some people tried those methods and they failed so a tach on a 1.5 lanos is always a hard task.
