I have a 1.6 DOHC 2001Lanos, h/b base.
Story: I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my drivers side wiper got caught up under the left one and bent the right side one down to where its completely useless.
Now the thing is when i pull up the wiper like you go to change the blades, i can pretty much move both wipers in any direction, up down and wiggle them side to side. Keep in mind that i have made sure that the arms themselves are secured to the motor arm stubs.
I am thinking the motor and assembly has became loose from the body of the car. Is that what it is, and if it is what is the best way to get to it, and if i have to go to the dash, can someone point me in the right direction, Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Rach.

i think some part of the mechanical arm got lose... can you hear the wiper motor whine when to try to operate the wipers? if yes then you got a linkage problem for sure.
as far as i remeber working on the likage requires the removal of the palstic grill on top of the fire wall.

Well i have opend everything up and well, i have no idea why the one overlapped the otherone, but the linkage is loose, i can wiggle all of it, but all the bolts are good n snugg, does anyone have any idea of a parts number or kit that has like spacers or anything to stiffen up the linkages, eh its kinda working right now, but i don't want it to do that while i am in the middle lane on the interstate going about 65-70mph. And there is no whining like some of the controll parts are getting in a bind. Also, the teeth that grip the wiper arm is fine, no evidence of being loose and turning.
However, when my wiper blades are on any speed, and its raining cats and dogs, the left one kinda bounces when it starts across the windshield, kinda like on a dry day that you accidentally hit the wiper switch, and it squeaks across the window.
*and the bearings on the wiper motor are good, not a noise.

A common problem is the plastic bush which holds the wiper spline starts to wear and you end up with a lot of free play in the wiper arm. Too much play and it starts to tangle up with the other wiper arm. I replaced my complete wiper mechanism with one from a breakers which had much less wear and no longer wiggle about. As a temporary measure you could fit a smaller size wiper blade to the passenger side so there is less chance of it catching the other wiper.
