Help Quick Please before i pay a mechanic!!
Hi All, greetings from the Emerald Isle, anyways i dismantled my cluster the other day to change the colour of the needles and respray the housing red (will pot pic soon), alls well and it looks great, only problem is my needles are not working now, my temp needle is right up in the red (overheating) My speedo needle is stuck on 35mph and my fuel needle is down on empty on a full tank. I've tried re arranging the connections on the back of the cluster but no joy!! can anyone help me with this problem??
As for the needles in a bad position, well... you need to pull the needles play with them to make sure they're in the right place. The easy one is the fuel gauge... Fill the tank then pull and re-position the needle to the full position. The temp one is not quite so easy, You'll need to pull the needle and adjust it down. Unfortunately I think that's going to be a trial and error kind of thing. After you re-position it, next time you run the engine for a while, see if it comes up and stops at the middle line on the temp gauge or just slightly below it (normal operating position)... Speed gauge... more difficult...
With the speed gauge correction... Your best bet is to pull the needle off. Then pull the needle stopper... Then, position the needle so it is point at about 5-10 degrees to the left of straight down on the dial. Now gently rotate the needle just past the needle stopper position and re-insert the needle stop pin. Now... there are a few ways you can check your speed. The easiest is to get a friend of yours to drive at a specific speed and then you match speed with your friend and check to see if you're getting a correct reading. So if you tell your friend to go 40 and hold it... then you match speed and check the dial. Another way is to find a police officer with a radar gun and then get them to check your speed for you.
