amp wiring

Post by kinkyllama »

Okay.. first off I cant even get my amp to turn on  The power and ground is connect, the ground isnt the best but I know its working cuz I hooked a cap to it and the cap was working. I have the RCAs hooked up and they work (tried em on another amp). Now the wire between the RCAs, is that the REM wire? Im using it as one.. but even w/o an REM the amp should work, right?

Now i have a bass knob for the amp.. and i've seen it turn on about 3 times since i installed the amp a couple weeks ago. Who knows how many times it actually turned on cuz Its kinda outta sight.

Anyone got any ideas?

2nd.. I have to subs that are dual 4ohms each.. I need to give them a 1ohm load. I just take a wire from the amp for the negative and postivie and hook it up to the speaker terminal as usual, then take the positive and negative from the speaker terminal to the 2nd speaker terminal, right?

Also on each sub theres two postitive and two ground.. do you use them both? If so in what order or whatever?

Thanks for any input guys, its greatly appreciated.

the amp will not work with out the remote lead, it sends a signal from the h/u to turn the amp on. and your subs are whats called "dual voice coil" thats why you have two + and two -. if your amp is 1 ohm stable all you do is bridge it to single channel and hook all the + to the + and all the - to the -. what kind of amp and subs are you using????? if its a big amp youg gonna need ALOT of speakers on he inside to make up for the excassive bass. can we get some pics?

Is the wire that comes in between the RCAs a remote wire??

I found a diagram online and it says to do the 1 ohm different. Can you explain in perfect detail how to wire everything from the speaker terminals on the amp all the way to both subs.

Two of These L5 solo baric subs (dual 4ohms voice coils)

This amp powering them:

While im at it what should i Set everything too? (crossovers, subsonic filter, equalizer)

Oh and I have CDT componets in the front doors being power 125rms @4ohm each.

No rear speakers.. one day I might get 50rms componets for the people taht have to sit back there cuz most all you can hear in the back is bass/mid-bass.

No it is not, you'll need another wire from the starter (key) to turn on the amp if your deck doesn't have the remote turn on lead.

The RCA's can't have the turn on wire (remote lead) cuz if that wire was in there with the RCA's wires you would get alot of buzzing in you subs.

And the amp you got isn't brigdeble if you do so you'll damage the amp. In my case I would just put the subs in the same order ex: both pos toghter and also the neg. (That is what I did with my MTX amp.)

Hope this helps.

I was told on this forum long ago, and by the website (over the phone) that i ordered the amp/subs from that its best to wire each sub at 1ohm

Finally got the amp to turn on..turns out the blue wire on the harness isnt the remote.. i dunno what it is.. the remote wire is blue with a white strip though.

I understand how to wire at 1ohm now.. but when you hook up the woofer itself to the speaker terminal do you hook up all 4 onto the woofer itself? (2 positive and two negative)

The blue cable will connect to the "power antenna" connection on the back of your stereo; just there to trigger the amp to turn on when you turn on the stereo.

Got it all working... still have alot to do to clean it up and add the capacitor now i got it all in.

Anyways, for anyone intrested im running a 150fuse and 4g wire all the way to my hifonics amp (approx 2000watts max). (The capacitor will go in in like a week) From there I have 8g wire from the amp to the speaker terminal.. and again 8g wire from the speaker terminal to the woofer itself.

I cant even beleive how hard this thing pounds.. i know everyone says that about there system but one sub woulda been more than enough. The people across teh street from me actually called and complained when i was only running one sub.

I'm very happy with the fact that nothing inside the car rattles.. the trunk rattles a little but hardly noticable. There is something on the rear of the car that rattles like CRAZY though.. i cant figure out what it is. You can only hear it on the outside.. and it goes away with the trunk open, but its not the trunk itself and its not the exhaust.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Nope... plus I got that down.

Some of the trunk panels were rattling a little.. but i put some towels in between them and they dont anymore.

I think its something unusual.. i dunno what though.
