Speedometer is non-functioning... need advice
I've got it in the works to replace my gauge cluster with one with a tach... BUT...
In the meanwhile I have a gauge cluster without a tach that has a problem... My speedometer doesn't work.
Do you know of any simple tests/things I can try to get it working in the meanwhile?

is that associated with a CEL?

You know... I'm really not sure. The lights for the speedometer come on when I turn on the lights but otherwise the speedometer does nothing at all. I'm thinking it's probably a broken wire or something that leads to where the speedometer gets it's information, but I'm not sure where it gets it's information or what I would be looking for.MMamdouh wrote:is that associated with a CEL?

Any chance you could tell me where on the transmission this is located. I've been scanning through the repair manual and haven't found a diagram to show me where it connects and I'm too much of a newbie to know how figure it out on my own.
Someday I'll know every inch of this vehicle... But for now, I'm still learning.

the speed sensor is located on the tranny case next to the starte motor... check if it is broken or got some dirt in it.

Well... I was missing the section that had the manual transmission and I found the images showing the speed sensor, but when I look at my transmission (or at least I think I am) I can't seem to find this speed sensor or it's connection:

I know you said it's near the starter, maybe it's below? I was looking at it through the engine bay.
Maybe I'll go back out and take another look. I'll take my camera with me and snap a few shots. Maybe I'll spot it with the camera?

I found the thing... I wasn't looking far enough in back of the engine, but sure enough... WAY DOWN THERE is the connection. I couldn't see really well and was a bit worried about pulling too hard on the connector to check it for dirt and such. So I didn't work it off yet. Is there a trick to removing these things?
The two wires coming out the back of the connection seem alright from first glance. I didn't remove the bundle covers yet to check the wires underneath it yet.

a lot of the time, these are known to get dirty...
disconnect the wires, then remove the sensor. spray some wd40 or deep creep or some other clearner in there. also, put some petroleum jelly on the rubber o-ring when you replace it. make sure the little gear spins appropriately and smoothly and that will help i think.
