ground wire, help!

Post by kinkyllama »

well i popped my hood the other day just to make sure everything was working.. i noticed the bolt that holds the ground wire on (the stock location) was a different color.. i touched it and it burned/shocked the fuck out of me.

Why the hell would it do this? The car runs fine .. well i have some idling issues sometimes. I have noticed the lights dim really easy when the music is up(even if the bass isnt).. which is strange since they barley dimmed before i added my optimal yellow top and new ground wires.

My only guess would be a postive wire touching a ground wire somewhere but didnt see anything.. i didnt check to hard cuz i was late for work though. I just want your guys opinions. I gotta go to class now but will be back in 2 hours.

thanks,
Danny

crossing a +ve and -ve wires will lead to instant spark, loads of heat and a blown fuse... if no fuse exist on the said circuit then either the wire will melt till the circuit is broken or the battrey will get toasted. you don't have any of that... right?

i recon you have a bad connection at that bolt so the electric current is having lots of resistance at this point and thats why it is so hot.

remove the bolt and clean the contactpoiunt very well and reasseble the whole groung poin again... this should fix the problem.

Have you got the correct battery installed? somewhere your losing power. Do you find your battery gets a little flat after a while? (a day or two without use)

all what you said points to bad wiring especially bad grounding... maybe something got lose or dirty or you have missed a ground point or so... don't rule out any thing till you double check it, it could take you months of diagnosis till you find out that the problem was in a place you knew very well that it is OK.

well i took off all the ground wires and double, triple checked everything.

The only thing i found was the cable connector thing (whatever its called, lol) doesnt fit snug around the stock location bolt... i think thats the problem. Even though the nut holds it tight against the body and the bolt i think it may cuz some resistance. So im gonna fix that and see what happens
