Dash removal of lanos, front panel

Post by DomWoo »

Dash removal on Daewoo Lanos

Dash removal is essential for some mods as in replacing how the dials look and putting an after market CD player or for maintenance such as repairing broken A/C controls.

I am going to show the steps for taking off the whole dash up to removing the dials so that this document can be helpful for each and every project that requires taking off the dash or part of it.

Tools: you will need a Philips screwdriver and a flat end screwdriver.
Start by opening the cup holder at the very bottom of the dash then using either of the screw drivers you got pop the H shaped part of the dash that runs on the outside of the radio, It is fixed by metal clips and it should pop right of? sometimes the metal clips fall off so keep an eye while doing that.

Image

Right at the bottom of the A/C control panel there is two Philips screws, take them off and then you can slide the whole control panel to the outside, take care as this panel is still attached by the control wires and those are very fragile so be careful not to bend the unit too much.

Image
Pull the electrical socket out.
Each of the three control wires have a metal ring at its end and a slotted plastic nail inside it, using the flat tip screwdriver pull the ring outside the nail? this is going to be tricky because you don?t have much room to work with and you can?t tilt the unit much.
The wires are fastened by a plastic clip that is integrated to the wire?s end? those clips are the ones that usually break and cause the knobs not to function properly. Tilt the wire to the direction of the clip and away from the wire to remove it, the wire got some kind of a guide that it fits in and that will make it come off, again don?t use much force during the process or you will break the clips, if you already got a broken clip or if you accidentally broke one, use super glue to put it back to the wire?s end.
Take off the power mirror control by pulling it to the outside using the flat end screw driver, if you don?t have power mirror then you have a cup shaped plastic trim instead?insert your four fingers in it then pull it out.
Image
There are six screws holding the dash panel, two right above where the A/C control panel used to be, two under the power mirror control, two on the arc of the gauges?take them all off.
Pull the dash unit forward but not much, it is still attached by the hazard light socket and the clock and the fog light (if you have them).Undo all the sockets that hold the dash first before removing it.
Image
Pull the dash all the way out, maneuver it over the steering wheel and it is all out.

The gauge cluster is held by four screws at its corners, undo all of them.

Image

Tilt the cluster on its face and take off the three sockets at its back.

Slid it all the way out.

Take off the clear plastic cover; it has five clips that need to be pushed past their locking spots.

Take off the black facial panel it also got five clips that need to be pushed past their locking spots.

To put the whole thing back together follow the same steps in reveres
order.

I have had the same problem. The first inital gutting of the dash is amazingly simply (radio, HVAC controls, cluster, glove box.) When it comes to trying to take the actual plastic cover off, it is damn near impossible. The main 2 screws are behind the A pillar covers and you can take them off with I believe an 8mm rachet. There are 3 or 4 screws in the driver foot panel (yes, one above the hood latch.) Then on the passenger side, there are 2 on the bottom side where the glovebox bolts and one to the complete far right, but they are all facing inwards, making them horribly unreachable. There are also two or three up in the passenger foot panel pointing upward. I can get the driver's side totally loose, but I can't even budge the passenger's side. I have reason to believe that the airbag is holding the dash in, but I have no way to take it off and I am afraid of setting it off.

Thats why I said, that if one kind soul would maybe take the few minutes to make a PDF file of the service manual dash removal, he would be revered as a god. :P

However, as my heater is hiding behind my dash, yearing to be free of its clutches, I might be forced to go downtown to the stealership and ask them to take pity on my soul and see if they would tell me how to take the dash off, and if not, I'll try to get a quote on how much it would take for them to take out my dash and everything behind it.

Please guys, I don't want to spend $500 on work that is simple and That I would much rather do myself, but I hate the fact that I'm carrying dead weight in the car now as it is since my heater and A/C don't work.

Someone Please Help! :D

Bless You :!: :!:

LoL J/P.

I hope you can do more than I did... which was jack. Just be wary of tripping your AIRBAG light because I did mine.

Good Luck.

I don't remember a screw that is inside styrofoam. What Side of the dash compartment?

Did you have to take out the airbag assembly for the dash to come out?

And do you remember how many screws there were all together?

Thanks for all of your help.

I pried (with a screwdriver from the top)untill I loosened up the front "SRS Airbag" cover, I thought I got the whole thing but I ended up bending the cover and tripping the "Airbag" light. I did see some hex bolts in there so I assume that is what is holding it.

Be sure to disconnect the battery and wait 2 minutes for the system to discharge. I forgot and ran the risk of getting decapitated.

the recall for my car was something to do with the fact that if i was in a wreck my airbags probably wouldn't deploy.
