Make thieves not WANT to break in to steal your stereo -PICS

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

I was given a broken piece of junk Legacy cassette player.
It was EXACTLY what I have been looking for.
To make it even better, the color matches my car, so it even LOOKS like it is really installed.

Take a look what I did today. Maybe you can use this idea to help keep your stereo from being stolen.

I never thought of that! LOL

Although, most car stereo thieves take stuff they know they can get money for and Legacy is the cheapest of the cheap junk of car radios and people know it is not worth anything, espeically being a cassette player.

LOL

"Look! That's the cassette player like my broken one. I'm going to take it!"
*window breaks*
"Damnit! The face broke off, just like mine did!"

Cliff,

Seriously you should get more of those and sell them. That looks awesome...ummm awesome as-in it looks like it is installed...not a good looking head unit though. I don't think anyone would be tempted to take that thing

Anyone who wants to use a fake face like this will need to remember to leave out the spacer trim ring from the radio installation kit, as seen here with the red arrow pointing to the ring:

Image

Leaving this spacer trim ring out makes the radio sit recessed back into the dash. This leaves room for the fake face to fit and be held in place by the top edge of the installation kit and by the sides of the dash trim.

In order to use a fake face, the radio that is being covered up can not have anything like knobs or buttons that stick out too far. Anything sticking out will get in the way of the fake face fitting in place.

If I can come up with some more junk cassette players, I can make some more fake faces.
If I sold them, I could not sell them with a warranty as the face is not very strong since there are several small pieces just held on with super glue. Some kind of epoxy could make them stronger, but it still couldn't stand up to very much.

Sorry, but no, it doesn't.

For an after market radio installation, you will need 2 things:

1) An installation kit, as pictured above
2) A wiring harness adapter

Both items are available at most local car stereo shops. If you can not find them locally, they are very often on ebay and also available from other on line shopping sites, such as shopping.yahoo.com

Cardomain.com has the installation kit for $9.95
http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCODO2110B?ref=yhps

They also have the stereo wiring harness adapter for $5.95
http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCODO01B

I hope this helps!

It's not a dumb question. I have done this on numerous cars during my years as an installer. I didn't have the chance to work on any Daewoos at the time so I would take Cliff's advice. Just to let you know though, the kit is the best way to go. It makes it much more simple and by being simple it saves time. In most cases you won't have to tear apart the dash to do it, which is a blessing. Don't skimp on the wiring harness either. Just be glad you don't have a Chevy truck eww I hated installing head units in those things. Or worse yet the ford taurus or escort late models I'd say 96+ Or anything with fake wood trim around the head unit.

Today I updated the fake radio face! :)

A piece of cassette tape was added.

Also, for added security, a pair of old, broken Pyramid 4" speakers were balanced on the rear shelf of the car! LOL

LOL, people must think you have a super weak sound system.... untill they hear you coming from a mile away with heavy bass.

*Boom boom boom boom*
-as Cliff rides back to his house
*"What the hell guys?! I thought he only had (2) 4" speakers and a cassette deck?!"

LOL

You don't really need this, cause all CD players come with specific adapters that will only work on those CD players.

Yes, you do need it.

That wiring harness adapter is what plugs into the car's harness.

You solder or crimp that harness togetether with the harness that comes with the radio so the radio can easily plug directly into the car.

Picture this:

Oh I see, it allows for easy switching of CD players (in case you want to upgrade to a different one)... but if you're going to stick with one CD player, you don't really have to do it.

It is so you do not have to cut the factory wiring harness (which is a bad idea) and makes the installation of any CD player much faster and easier.
