Complete System.
I'm thinking of getting 3-5 15" subs, tearing out my backseats and just make my green woo, a Huge Sound and Horsepower machine.
Any thoughts?

well as far as i know, 3-5 15s would probably require you to remove all the windows in your woo and have custom plexiglass windows installed and sealed because they would more than likely blow the seals on them
my woo has 2 Audiobahn ALUM12Q's powered by a 2000w amp in a bandpass enclosure, currently thinking about removing the backseat and building a custom box that uses the backseat rather than the trunk simply because i hate not having trunkspace

Yea i was going extreme.... i'm figuring only 2 15's or 3 12's... Probably Audiobahn Amp and Subs.
However... i'm thinking of getting Infinity 4", 4"x6", 6"x9"...
the first 2 to replace factory speakers... the last one to add some punch. probably mount them on that flap with the trunk...
Is there a better brand than Infinity?
I've narrowed it down to Infinity or Alpine but i'm open for suggestions.

Ok ... I will suggest you join this forum:
www.CarAudioForum.com
You will learn a lot there if you read posts and ask questions.
I know Shaun is a fan of Audiobahn, so I won't shoot them down too much. :P
Audiobahn can get very loud, but do not have a reputation for the best sound quality.
Their quality is getting better with time and engineering/build advances, but are known to be more flash than sound quality. Car audio sales people will swear up & down how wonderful they are, but as you know what a sales rep's job is, that is to get the sale.
Also, stay away from premade band pass speaker enclosure.
Bandpass boxes, unless designed and built EXACTLY for the subs you are using WILL sound like crap to anyone that knows what to listen for. I am referring to audio competition judges.
Ported boxes will allow more sound output at lower wattage levels and, if built properly, will allow deeper notes to be reproduced.
Audiophiles will, for the most part, agree properly tuned/ported enclosures have the best sound quality reproduction.
As an example, my box for a single 15" sub is 5.2 cubic feet of internal air volume after displacement of the sub, port and the box bracing.
Sealed boxes can take more wattage to yield the same dB levels, but are less efficient because the cone can not move due to the pressure & vacuum created in the sealed box. Sealed boxes also require less cubic air volume than sealed boxes.
Remember, if you want a sealed box, it has to be COMPLETELY sealed. No cracks, no screw holes throug the side of the box, no leaking around the sub cut-out hole ... nothing. If the box is not completely sealed, it will not work as well.
Some people spray truck bed liner into their sealed boxes, others coat the whole box inside with silicone caulk. If you use caulk, remember to let it completely cure before installing the sub. Some subs use a surround that can be deteriorated by the solvent that is released as the caulk dries. This leads to an early death of the sub caused by the cone breaking away from the basket.
Audio equipment and it's proper installation is heavy.
Sound + speed are not the best partners.
Speed likes less weight.
Sound likes acoustically dead enclosures which are inherrantly heavy.
People will argue about capacitors, but if you build your system correctly, they are unnecessary.
Upgrade your wiring, espeically under the hood, where it is most often forgotten.
1) Alternator positive output to battery positive output: 4ga
2) Battery netagive to body: 4ga
3) Body to engine block
An SVR or an Optima yellow top sealed battery make an excellent replacement if you are upgrading the audio system. SVR batteries have better recharge/discharge charractoristics than Optima, but they Optima are still very good, and MUCH better than a stock lead/acid battery.
Sound deadening is wonderful. If done properly, there is no buzzing or ratteling from the car body and increased dB levels inside the car due to more sound waves being reflected back into the car and not being absorbed and lost as mechanical vibration into the body of the car.
It also helps with a very noticable increase in audible sound quality.
There is just so much on this subject ... LOL
Go check out that forum and learn some stuff before diving into an audio project.
BTW, if you are interested, the stock Lanos alternator produces 85 amps output.

Brands I would suggest:KnightWalace wrote:any suggestion on the speakers?
High end:
Adire (not well known, but amazing)
CDT
MB Quart
Infinity
Rainbow (also not well known)
JL Audio
Pioneer are quite good, too.
Sony has gone down hill over the last few years. They used to be a lot better, but have sacrificed mass production output quantity for quality. They are selling on their old reputation and name.
Stay away from Pyramid, Legacy, Boss, and junk like that.

So Infinity are good subs? Ok, then they'll get my vote. If not them I'll hit up those adires.... what about interior speakers. Stock Speakers suck. For the Most part. Any other suggestions.... and Oz, if i go thru with this, i'm coming to the Ozville Residence and getting a hand.

Oh .. LOL ... I was suggesting those brands for the full range speakers, not the subs, although Adire makes some of the best power & SQ subs available. The Adire Koda 6'5" component speakers are really good.KnightWalace wrote:So Infinity are good subs? Ok, then they'll get my vote. For subs:
JL Audio also have some of the best subs available, but Adire Brahmas are almost 1/2 price of the JL (12W7 & 13W7) and preform just about on par, so price for perfoamance you can't go wrong.
Infinity subs sound good, but can't take a lot of power like some of the other suggestions on here.
I would also like to suggest Resinant Engineering subs ... yummy.
http://www.respl.com/ (site is down for reconstruction right now, sorry)
The RE XXX will implode your heart, pop your eyeballs, move all the hair on your body, break your window glass and still sound good doing it. LOL
Adire http://www.adireaudio.com
Memphis
DD (also very good) http://www.ddaudio.com/dd/default.asp
The square Kicker subs will displace a lot of air, too ... more dBs
