Hello all. I am a new owner to a used 2001 Lanos HB. I have a lot of questions! LOL

I got this car about a week ago and I have not been able to find any visual upgrade parts in my area. i know that there are a few websites were i can order these items, but I wil look through those.

The main question I have right now is the shifter. I already had a momo shifther put away from my rice rocket days :), but i see that this Lanos has a lever for the reverse gear. Can I still use my shifter or do i have to use the stock one?

The reverse lockout is like the VW.... it will work just fine if you don't have it.... but you risk accidentally putting it into reverse instead of 1st gear.

If you want to try modifying the stock one I suggest you get a shifter from a 1990 Pontiac Lemans

They are easy to find at the scrap yard for a couple of bucks.

The Lanos is based upon the AstraMK2 / Kadett E chassis..... which came to North America as the Pontiac Lemans.

So.... that is to say you can take parts off a Lemans and it will fit onto your lanos.

Ok. So I can go without it but risk accidentally putting it in reverse and hitting the person behind me. I will have to think long and hard about that one.

That was going to be my next question. LOL What other cars share the same parts, not only engine and suspension wise, but also exterior. I was trying to see if I can get some bumpers or wings off of different cars to see if they fit, but maybe that was already tried by a member.
