Na. You need a interface to adapt voltage. And a software to read data.

Its actually a pretty easy circuit and here is a link for the data sheet of the max232 op amp if you need it, before i buy my cable i thought of doing it but couldn't find the op amp here so i was going to order online, and the whole point was to make it from local parts here cheap so i just bought the usb version for peace of mind right now :D

keep us updated man and good luck

you're using the transistors(which from what i know are low power amplifiers) instead of the operational amplifier in the diagram or your not following that diagram at all, because if there is another way i'd love to know it

just thinking if any one can correct me please do to

if RxD receve data and Txd transmit its i could use a usb plug instead of a serial plug
Image
e.g

power - A
RxD - B Data-
TxD - C Data+
ground - D

I'm not a software guru but I now the ALDL programs you can have for free were developed for RS232 serial connexion. I believe they won't work on USB ports.

Also take care if ordering the Maxim circuit. You need the MAX232! Not the MAX323.

If someone knows a software that works with daewoo lanos or any kind of the new generation aldl please state it, i've tried a whole bunch of them but only got the EFILIVE V4 to work and its an evaluation so it only datalogs for 3 seconds i guess :S and doesn't read Trouble Codes and lots of other readings are messy, i guess they were meant for the old gm aldl or something because in WINALDL i only see the old types of ECUs, if someone has an aldl cable and tried a software with it please tell us so we know what works and what doesn't for future reference
