climate control cables

Post by orangelmo »

i was just wondering how to remove the cables to get the climate controls off. i dont think mine are working properly and i want to see what is going on back there. for one, it won't switch front vents to anything else like the winshield defogger. any ideas?

Yeah you must have broke the little plastic holder for the cable it is on the drivers side under the dash towards your stereo

I used a bunch of tie straps to hold it in place so it works now untill I can find a replacement part

it's actually quite simple to fix. Many of us had the same problem. I ordered a new cable from www.gm-car-parts.com
I think it was only a few bucks

I'm having the exact same problem presently in my 99 Lanos. Please let me know what it was, what was busted and what you had to remove to fix it. Thanks in advance!

Argh. I took a look last night, and my cable is kinked, but that's a symptom, not the cause. I tried to manually push the actuator under the dash, but it won't move past vents to defrost. Now I've got to figure out how to get in there to see what's blocking the deflector plate(s). Anyone done this?

Ok but do you see a clear bracket holding the cable on the drivers side under the dash near the radio? if you don't see it thats what broke and is causing your problem
