turbo timer
ok whats it do and is it good to have and does it matter what kind you buy
2.0 engine swap in the works
A turbo timer does pretty much what Pir0 said. You can set a specified amount of time for the car to run (idle) after the keys are removed from the ignition to let the turbo cool down to a safe temperature where the oil won't coke inside it. If you were to drive hard and then just immediately shut off the car, the oil inside the turbo would turn to sludge from the extreme heat, and possibly block the oil drain or cause other worse problems. Factory turbo cars are typically watercooled with engine coolant, so they don't run into this issue. Needless to say, if you don't have a turbo, a turbo timer is useless.

I wouldn't say they're useless if you don't have a turbo. I Installed one two years ago when I got all my turbo stuff togather. I love it, defnitly starts some conversation when your car turns off after you get out of it. Also when I'm at the track we have a meeting after every run to make sure there were no problems, I don't like just shutting my car off after running it so hard but I wouldn't want to leave the keys in it. Boshart motorsports installed if for me and told me it allows you to run a remote start easyier as well; Never got around to that though, all the instrutions are Japanese. I think I only paid ~$70 shipped for it and it's made by Greddy too.exist3nce wrote:A turbo timer does pretty much what Pir0 said. Some turbo timers you can set it so it takes into account how long, and how hard you drove and determins how long it should run after the keys are out. Also the a/c turns off if it was on when you remove the keys. Sometimes I even hit the buttom a few times to keep it on longer if I'm just running in and out of a store real quick
