MY tach cluster is finally working!!!!!

Post by MMamdouh »

first of i'd like to thank my very good friend Tim ubuyau for his great help and the pricless how to he made on the subject of installing a tach on a 1.5 SOHC

i got myself an OEM tach cluster to swap my current one, i started by a direct swap hoping that i got the correct wiring but unfortunatly it didn't work

the shop suggested an electrition that knows how to do the wiring and i agreed... the stupid @$$ only managed to make the tach read 1/2 signal like every body else did so i was so sad that the thing is not working properly.

i then remebred Tim's how to and reviewed it and i also got confirmation from him that the wires he used at the ECU side are the same wires at the coil pack side so i just went to the electrnics shop and got them diods.

today i had some free time so i opened the cluster to paint the needles red as i did to the old one and i also swapped the odometer to keep my current kms correct and made a little circuit includig both diodes and went to the garage to do the installation.

it turns out that the wires that are giving half signal are the white and the bron wires at the coil pack side... joined them both through the diodes and the consolidated signal was routed to the green with black stripe wire on the right most plug of the cluster.

started the engine and WOW... i got a tach that works ;)

again thanks Tim for your contribution and i have confirmation that this method does work like a dream... enjoy your tachs guys!

Thanks for the kind words man! :smt028

OK it is a POS quality but you can see it going to the 6.5k limit

MMamdouh where is your ECU located though?

Mine isn't under the seat like other people's are, mine is down by the pedals in the kick panel. If yours is in the kick panel would you be able to take a picture or say which cables they are? The one's listed on Tim's guide (C1 or whatever they were) don't even have wires in on my ECU).

Nice work setting yours up.

my ECU is barried under the passenger seat indeed.

why do you want to mess with the ECU anyways? the wires Tim specified - the brown and the white wires- are leading to the coil pack so why look for 2 wires in 10,000 wires wereas you can locate them in a socket of 4 wires?

after you find the wires on the coil pack and make the diod modification as per Tim's instructions, connect a wire from both diodes to the green with black stripe wire on the right socket of the cluster... again this is the same wire that Tim reffered to but i recon it is easier to locate it in the socket than at the ECU side.

this brings me to a conclusion: the wiring for the tach does exist on all lanoses... the problem is that the ECU doesn't support that on non tach lanoses so if you got the tach cluster and don't want to play with wiring, get yourself an ECU that supports a tach as well.

nope, look at the pics on this post... the coil pack is the part marked A,B,C and D:
http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2634

the socket i am talking about is on the opposit side of were the spark plug leads are attached, the socket has Red, Black, Brown and white wires and the signal wires are the white and brown ones.

i got a problem on a friend's car... he has an aftermarket tach and it is currently on half signal.

i simply did the same bi-diod circuit that i did on my car but the tach died... the diods are not giving any signal to the tach for some reason, i tried single diod, both directions.... every thing you can think of but the tach is dead with diodes.

could this be due to a faulty diodes??

if it is worth mentioning... my friend's lanos got the leaded fuel managment (no O2 sensor or EGR) so could this mean that the coul pack is getting different signal ration or so that is not compatable with the diodes rating??

please help.
