Any vehicle sold after 1996 should be OBD II, so you should have an OBD II port. It is usually right under the the dash, often on the drivers side.

Do you need a photo of where it is, or what it looks like? If you look under your dash, you should be able to spot it rather easily. If you don't know what you're looking for, it will be about 2 1/2 inches wide, and have a "D" style connector.

I found this picture of a 1999 Lanos, so I hope this helps.

Norbie,

Your car has certainly a OBD connector.
There are several different On Board Diagnostic connectors. 4,10,12,16 contacts.
Even if your car has a OBD connector you need to know what kind of protocol is used.
My Nubira year 2000 has the OBDII style connector but is not OBDII compliant. It is a ALDL wired in OBDII connector.
IF you have a 16 contacts connector AND you find somewhere a sticker saying "OBDII compliant" than it's ok for OBDII.
You can read through this site for more info http://www.s10blazers.com/service_engine_soon.htm .

isn't that socket called ALDL port??

the socket on the nubira is defenatly OBDII but the one on the lanos is different... it is kinda rectangular rather than the un semetric socket on the lanos.

Lanos' socket:

also on some lanoses (like mine) that socket is located under the glove box.

maybe it is related to the imissions rating of the engine... we only got one CAT and no cam sensor ---> OBDI you got 2 CATS and cam sensor ---> OBDII, basicly that will be the difference between a T20SED and C20SED engine.

It can make a difference where you live. OBDII is the standard in North America, and was adopted by some other coutries as well. In Europe, some countries use OBDII, but may also use a different system similar to OBDII but ratified by the ISO. This system may also use different connecdtors, or may use the same connector, but a different pin layout and protocol. To confuse things even further, it may not use either. I would asume that the 99 Lanos would be ODBII, only because I know it was sold in the US and Canada, and any vehicle sold in North America after 1996, MUST be OBDII compliant.
