Hole in firewall for wire

Post by chris2511 »

Hi guys, ive read everything on here, and come to the conclusion there is a few ways to get a wire inside the car, but does anyone have pictures on where it goes through, because i really wanna get this damn cable inside the car, and some diff models of the lanos have some wires down the bottom behind some sound deadening stuff under the glove box, my model which is 1997 doesnt, so could i just drill that hole out and put the wire through there? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Ive checked and the hole where you did it is covered up in my car for some reason, must be an extra feature that your car has because its a later model, so do you think i could drill a hole through there anyway?

don't look through from under the glove box, open the hood and there will be a bunch of wires goin through the passenger side of the car. damn sorry just realized your in aussie land. it still should be about the same but it might be through your drivers side. well back to the wires. you'll see a bunch of wired goin through the fire wall on the left side of the car when looking at the engine. just tie your power wire to an end of a untwisted shirt hanger and stick it through the hole until you can see it on the other side. there should be no reason to drill.

Ok - since you are in Australia & your steering wheel is on the other side, check your passanger side above the fuse box.
There is a BIG grommet where the main wiring harness enters the car, and you can make a small cut in the grommet (be VERY careful not to cut the wires).

You can get to to the other side of the wiring harness by taking out the bolts that hold the passanger side front fender (wing).
It is very easy to get the wiring through at that place.

***Remember - these directions are ONLY for a right hand drive (Australian, English & Japanese) car. For everyone else with a left hand drive (US, Canada, Korea, etc) the wiring harness is above the fuse box on the driver side.***

Hey guys thanks forr the tips, but in the end i decided to drill a hole through the firewall, down the bottom, 2000 model lanos's have a wire already coming through there for soem reason but its covered over in the earlier lanos models, anyway so it was pretty simple, now i have a nice power lead coming through, Ive posted pics for others who want to do this too, any questions just post them up. And thanks once again for all your help guys!!

Tomorrow I will show you where it was and also I would put a rubber gromet or something around that power wire because it will get frayed while rubbeing against the firewall

be careful because although alot of stereo places do it, its infact illegal over here to drill a firewall, so just dont get your car defect checked because its an expensive thing to fix
