leganza parcel shelf "issues"

Post by woo »

when i turn up my sterio real loud the cover on my parcel shelf rattles. Ive secured all the wiring so it isnt that, but if i filled the gap between the metal and the cover bit with dynamat or some othere sound dedener would it solve my problem. It only vibrates when the volume is up REAL LOUD, but still, Ive spent the money on a system, so i should be 100% happy with it.

I think it is not the parcel shelf itself, but the plastic trim on the C pillars that is rattling.
Try removing them and putting some kind of foam or pading between them and the metal.
My Leganza rattles there, but I have not yet done anything about stopping the noise.

Another thing to check are the springs under the parcel shelf that hold the trunk open. Those may be touching and buzzing, too. Have a look and see if they are doing anything. You *may* need to fold the back seats forward and look up at the springs with a flashlight to see how the springs are when the trunk is closed. Remember, the springs move and are not in the same place when the trunk is open as they are when the turnk is closed.

ive rapped the springs in foam and the c pillar things are solid, the roof liner vibrates and so does the parcel shelf cover thing, so will filling the gap fix the problem?

Filling the gap *should* take care of it.
Depending on how much of a gap there is, maybe gluing some sheet foam on both sides with 3M industrial spray adhesive will work.

I'm going to take my shelf off this summer when I put in new speakers.
I'm planning on replacing the 6x9's with adapter rings inside the trunk and adding a pair of 10" subwoofers with an infinate baffle type of set up.
This will use the trunk as the dicvider and get low notes without needing a lot of power. With this set up, I'm not trying to get mirror shaking bass, just fill in the missing freqnency range where the lower spectrum is missing.

well, i just covered my parcel shelf and a small part of my roof (between the liner and the steel) with some (cheap) sound deadener stuff and all interior rattles are gone. The boot lid rattles a little bit but its not audible from inside the car and you cant hear it from about 2 metres away so its no drama. Problem solved

Putting sound deadener on the roof metal under head liner is a really good idea. That helps the sound inside the car, too.
I have 2 layers on the roof of my Lanos; no flexing and a lot better sound inside the car. :) My doors have 3 layers of deadening under the panels, too.

i only put about an inch wide strip to stop the vibration. I did it to stop vibration not for sound quality reasons. In stopping any rattles my daewoo shows up all my friends cars because i can have the bass up without the annoying rattles. hooray for me

good job. I hate rattles...

What I'm using to overcome that is Expanding foam. It's light and will get rid of the rattles. :-D
