info on constant 200 AMP alternator

Post by daftmajin »

Anyone had any luck putting in a different alternator on a Lanos? Are there any aftermarket or maybe a big GM alternator that would be any easy fit? I'm looking for a 200+ (constant) amp to put in for high performance audio and electronics. What would be involved when putting in a non OEM alternator? Any suggestions would be very helpful.

OZ got a quote a few years back on a 160AMP alternator. It was some crazy price tho. I can't imagine you'd need anything that large tho.

Yeah ... I can't remember exactly what it was, but I think it was getting up near $500 or something crazy like that. At that price, they keep it.

LOL

One of the best upgrades you can do is to go to a heavier gauge cable for the Big Three wires.

Replace the stock wires with 4ga or thicker for these:

(1) Battery Positive terminal to Alternator positive output terminal

(2) Battery Negative terminal to car body

(3) Car body to engine block

You can use welding cable (least expensive and very good for this application) or you can use the colored amplifier power cable to make it all pretty. LOL
