Aveo rear speaker polarity?
Does anyone know the polarity of the rear speakers? I want to replace the factory ones with better quality but there are no markings on the stockers. '05 Aveo / Kalos. Thanks in advance.

There is an easy way to tell!
Take a small battery, such as a 1.5V cell and tape wires on each end.
With the stock speaker on the table, touch the wires from the battery to the speaker a few times. Don't leave the battery connected, that is not what you are looking for.
What you want to do is just hold one wire on one terminal an d then brush the other wire on the other terminal.
If the speaker cone moves out, away from the speaker fame, then you know that the + side of the battery is on the + terminal of the speaker.
If the speaker cone moves in, toward the speaker frame, then you know that the + side of the battery is on the - terminal of the speaker.
Once you know which terminal is + and - on the speaker, you can then tell which wire is the + and - on the wiring harness. That is ... if you still know which wire went on which terminal on the speaker.

Thanks for the fast reply. What I really need is the harness color codes for rear right +/- and rear left +/-, since I cut the stock connectors off and can't retrace the steps. I thought solid was always + and solid with black stripes or dashes was always - but the new speakers sound like shit with no bass response. I'm thinking they're out of phase. They're 4 ohm like the stock but the nominal power requirement is 20W and the other possiblility is that the stock dash cd player simply doesn't have enought power to move the bigger voice coils. The stock door speakers still sound just fine. Thanks.
here is another approac... connect the wires to the rear speakers with the setup you think is correct (solid for + and solid with black stripes or dashes for -) then listen to the speakers... if the bass is really crap then switch your "balance" setting from your cassette to one of the speakers, if the bass is good and powerfull with only one speaker on (balance fully to the right or fully to the left) then you got the connectors of the speakers reversed.
i tryed that before and it works...

CUT THE STOCK CONNECTER OFF?!?!?
What on Earth would posess you to do THAT?!? LOL
Sheesh ... $9 will get you a harness adapter and all the wiring will be correctly labeled.
Please, please PLEASE don't cut anything else off!!! LOL
In future, ask us before you do anything like that again.
(I'm not trying to be mean, so please don't take it as such. ok? )
I do not have an Aveo, but I will try to find the stock wiring color codes.

Sorry guys ... LOL ... I had just taken some very strong pain pills because my back had been hurting a lot again today. I was really not feeling like mysel after that. I couldn't even concentrate on anything at work today, either.Brian5475E wrote:chill OZ I think he is just talking about cutting off the connectors to the speakers, the the main harness for the radio

Thanks for the help so far...
Yeah, I had to cut the connectors at the speakers since the stock connectors / speakers aren't even close to your standard aftermarket speaker tabs. I've fooled with it all day and still the bass response sucks. Is it possible that the speakers are bad (but a pair in the same box?) or is it just that they require more power than the stock cd/stereo. The replacements are Sony xplodes (shitty, but they should at least work) and are the same impedence 4ohms as the stocks. Thanks, guys, I've never had a problem with 6x9's in all my other vehicles but these 4x6's are new to me.
