anyone else speedometer quit?

2001 leganza, speedometer quit. have been sent part from daewoo dealer 100+ miles away but it is still not working. local mechanic said there is sensor in tranny that is probably it but he knows nothing about daewoo...have automatic...anyone have knowledge on this subject?
