Rpm measurer

Post by hosszuz »

I have a 1.5 Lanos without rpm meter. I want to place into the car. It is right to replace the dashboard unit(the cables are in bundle and the connecting is eqal?) or search a sign in ecu and put a custom made unit?

i have thought of that myself bro... and i never knew the issue with the cables and so.

one of my friends actually did what you want to do... he replaced the whole dash cluster with the one that got the tach... according to him every thing worked fine except for the tach so he had to make a connection from the ECU to the tach and it worked.

i don't know which wire on the ECU did he use and where exactly on the dash did he hook it up to... not to mention that he is having trouble with it now.

anyways this means that it could be done with a little tuning... i will keep on digging till i get 100% reliable info on the job, it is really a bitch driving the car without a tach... thank GOD we have rev limiters.

if you replace the cluster it should work with one that has a tach.. there is already a wire running to the cluster even if there isnt a tach there (grn/blk)

Are you 100% sure of that?? it has been argued on the daewootech yahoo group that such wire doesn't exist and you have to customize a wire for the tach.

i was hoping that this is the case and the two clusters are a direct swap with no customizations whatsoever but the feedback i got from the yahoo group held me back.

so please elaborate more on this and tell me if you actually did that yourself and on which car\engine... you know the ECU on the 1.5 SOHC is different than the one on the 1.6 DOHC.

The way I did mine was.... I connected all 3 wires (light, 12v, ground) to the stereo system wires. Wired the tach signal wire to the ECU. Had a shop mount the tach for me in the dash (cause I was afraid to drill it myself). So now I have a 5" monster tach by AutoMeter with a huge shift light. I love it!!
