2000 Lanos - Sporatic Power Loss

Post by daewooluvr »

Hey Guys,
As you may know, I have a 2000 Lanos Hatchback.
Yesterday when I left work I got into my car, turned the key and got no crank.
Checked the dome light and no power. Then a minute or two later I noticed that the blower motor turned on and my dash cluster lights came on since the key was still on accessory. I turned the key over and it started right up.

I promptly took the car to Autozone to have the battery tested. They tested the batter and alternator and both checked out just fine.

This happened to me again this morning after I drove for 20 minutes, stopped at a convenience store, came back out and no power again. Waited a min and it came back.

Does anyone know what might cause this behavior? Is there a main power relay that could be going out?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Anyone know how to test if this is faulty without going out to buy one (If I can buy one)?

dont know if there is a way to really test a relay, but it shouldnt be expensive to replace.

and obviously, as MM said, check the battery terminals and ground points etc.

The issue hasn't come back since the day after I had the battery tested. battery terminals are somewhat clean and tight. Not sure what else to look at it without replacing that relay. I'll start looking around for one.

I'm with MMDouth..... check the posts. Mine did the same thing. the posts on my battery are tapered and the plastic guards had wedged the clamp up the post, and loose. I removed them, cleaned them, replaced them on the battery and all was fine. I would check the simplest thing first?

yea, i would loosen them, take em off clean everything and replace all the fun stuff, like $1.29 at my local autozone for the green and red ring along with the grease.
then check the FUSE in the fuse box, pull it out and blow into both, stick it back in, just to make sure not a loose connection. also would make sure the ground is secure and not loose to the car body, usually right next to the battery. if it still doesnt work 100% could be your battery pooped its pants. ive tested many batteries and alternators once, pass then test 20mins later and a fail. just saying.

btw, if u look at the fuse box cover it shows a nice square says "Main" and then under "80"

Well it ended up being dirty battery terminals. They really didn't look that bad but it started right back up after I cleaned them.
