Tachometer Problems.....ahhh

Hey guys,
I installed my tach quite a while ago. It used to work very good, till about 2 months ago. Every time I start the car, the tach points to 4k rpm and just sits there.... when I drive, when I'm in neutral, whenever. After about 30mins of driving, it goes back to normal.
Sometimes, when it's hot outside and I start the car, I have no problems.

What can be the problem (the tach? the wiring?)?

I think you should go for a tach problem as your engin is not reving that high. As for the wiring I don't think it would go back to normal by itself.

I'm using same ground for the stereo... stereo works no problems, tach works as well, but it seems that it likes to warm up before actually working.

Just double check that the ground hasn't come loose and is only making intermittant contact.

Actually, check all the wire connections to see if anything has come loose.

There is always a posibility that the tach itself is going bad.

One interesting thing I've noticed: Put the key into on position, the tach lights up like it should, start the car, it jumps up to 4k rpm. Turn the car off, goes down to 0 (like it should). So it's catching the wrong signal or something, and after 30 mins of driving goes back to normal.

Could it be because I used all the wiring from the stereo (ground, power, etc)? I also hooked up my neons to those wires as well and when I turn them on there's usually a delay before they turn on (also they turn on at different times, ones faster than the other or vice versa).
Help....

*Still haven't had time to take out the wires and check for connection problems

my take used to do the same thing.. start the car and woud jump to 5-6k but then i hooked up a reset button and just pushed it once and it would go back to normal

i still havnt found out what the problem is but i will have to check into it when i finish wiring up the rest of my car

i just put a monentary off push button switch inbetween the ground and the tach and when it would jump up i would just push it for a few seconds and it would set back to normal

yeah, but i think its the tach that has the problem, so im thinking of replacing it

Yea, It's gotta be the tach, I mean it works, just in the beginning it gets screwed... can't be the wiring or the ecu...
