Stereo problem

Post by bluesheepbrian »

Ok what first happened is I left a good part of my window, and it rained. So I figured moisture got into the stereo. I put a dryer to it and worked good, sounded good and everything. :? But turn off the car and then start it back it up the stereo wants to try to read a cd(no cd in it). And stays at 1:00 on the display, the music is distorted and have to bring the volume up to just to hear it. :? But the thing is sometimes during lunch break at work it works fine, but then after goes back to the same problem. Any wisdom? Do I need a new stereo? Or is it fixable since it has the effort to work.

This is just a guess; it may not be right .. but...

How wet is the carpet in your car?
Maybe it is so wet that the moisture is evaoprating in the day and condensing at night when the car cools down, so everyting gets damp, including the inside of the radio.

You said at lunch time it works.
Perhaps the dark dash is making it hot enough inside the radio for the moisture to evaporate, thus allowing the electronics to work.

I'm not really sure ... but it sounds kinda feasable! LOL

Try leaving your windows down a little when you park the car so it can dry out inside.

Worst case, you may have to replace the radio.

Yeah that sounds abotu right, I honestly don't think that the moisture would affect teh radio unless it got behind the dash, or the facegot wet, What I would do it take out your radio over the weekend, and make sure it is completely dfry, look for any rst on the casing and inside on th eboard, aslo take out your carpets and clean them out and let them dry before you put it back in, then, jsut try the radio and if it doesn't work, then maybe it won't be so hard to change it  , but honestly, That is what I would do.

Well, if you decide to get an aftermarket one, stay away from the older (2000 to 2002 year models) Sony Xplod CD players. Their output performance has been bench tested to not as good as what is printed on their paperwork or box.
Some have even been known to catch fire while the car is off!!!

Kenwood, Panasonic, Pioneer, Eclipse, JVC and Alpine are all quite good value for their price, depending on the model you choose. :)

I've always loved the JVC ones
