Lanos Suspension

Post by daewooluvr »

Has anyone successfully changed their own front suspension (struts/springs) on a Lanos yet?

I made two attempts but both times got denied by the ball joint. Even with the special Ball Joint Separating tool it wouldn't budge.

Can anyone give some insight?

Is it the ball-joint you are having the problems with, or the tie-rod end?

if its the balljoint, here what you do:
- I wouldnt recommend using the fork-type ball joint separator
- have HEAVY hammer handy
- once the tie-rod end is separated, turn the hub assembly all the way one way, and give the part that seats over the balljoint a few good hits
- turn it the other way around and repeat
The hub assembly should be free by now, but you might need a prybar to push down on the control arm.

If the balljoint fails to let go, you might need to get a torch and carefully heat it up around the balljoing, then wack it again with a hammer

I dunno, I tried twice and think I'm just going to get it done somewhere now.
