as posted this is a comparison between the 'average' Daewoo lanos 1.6 and the 'average' Pontiac Lemans 1.6. (the Lemans GSE/GSi different unless specified)
•first pic is of the Lemans (left) and lanos (right).
the Lemans GSE/GSi is the same as the lanos.
i forgot my not pad at the shop so I'll post dimensions tomorrow.
•i had taken apart the lanos calipers to get them ready for paint so i'll post pics of those when they are done.
•this is a pic of the H&R sport spring (L), the Lemans (C), and the lanos (R)
i will compare the stiffness of these OE springs.
if the Lemans spring is softer then the lanos then using a lanos sport spring on a Lemans may not be a good option. it could provide too much drop and cause rubbing.
i haven't been able to compare the lanos and the GSE/GSi spring.
•these are of the spring perch, lanos on the left and Lemans on the right.
if you take a look at the springs and there perches you can see that the base of the Lemans is wider then the lanos.
this means that lanos lowering springs are not a direct fit to the Lemans and vise-versa.
however, i will modify my Lemans strut assemblies to use the lanos springs and i will post that when i get there.
•another thing to consider is the wheel bearing.
the Lemans uses 22 teeth
and the lanos uses 33 teeth.
this means that the wheel bearings between the Lanos and the Lemans are not interchangeable
•as a side note the location for the steering links are the same.
•for now these are the pics i have of the comparison but there will be more to come.
•i would have posted this next section in... www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2701 but i can't add a comment to it
this is the easiest way to pull the strut cartridge from a Lanos, Lemans, Kadett E, Astra MK2 and so on.
start by clamping the 'Cartridge Nut' in a vice (strut upside-down)
us a 3/8 drive socket extension through the hole for the steering link.
and use a pry bar and twist off.

If I can add a few notes
For starters, front rotors.
The 1.6 Lemans rotors are 236mmX22mm, just as Lanos 1.5 SOHC
The Lemans 2.0 rotors are 256mmX24mm, just like in Lanos 1.6 DOHC
The lowering springs are interchangeble. My 'winter Lemans' (currently Polar Project under the supervision of PrecisionBoost) was fitted with Lanos 1.6 DOHC APEX springs, and no problems whatsoever occured during the install. While the kit was advertised to lower the car by appprox 1.25" (I think), on Lemans it was more like 0.7" Could have to do with the fact the Lemans is lighter.
The driveaxles are NOT interchangeble between the Lemans 1.6 and Lemans 2.0 due to the number of spline teeth. Based on your photos, I suspect the Lemans 2.0 and Lanos 1.6 DOHC do share splines/axles
Furthermore, my GSI is using Lanos KYB GR-2 front/rear, the inserts/shocks were identical to the ones removed from Lemans in terms of dimensions. On a note, the rear shock's piston bar is shorter by approximately 2cm, which will help when using lowered springs.
My 5 cents
Tom

GSI
this was/is a comparison between the 'average' Lemans and Lanos.
the Lemans GSE/GSi is few and far between and the two of us are lucky that we stumbled across ours.
i'd have to argue the point of the Lanos springs in a Lemans.
there is a tab that is need in the spring platform to keep the spring from spinning.
the lanos spring is wider at the base so these 'tabs' dont line up and are needed to be added.
that being said i am using Lanos sport springs on my Lemans and i still think this is the best option for those with a Lemans
thank you for the insight on the GSE wheel hub.
i haven't been able to tear into my car yet.
what i was planning was yo buy strut assemblies from another car, rebuild those with the new springs a shocks and swap them over. that appears to not be that easy.
also thank you for the bit about the shock, i know there was i forgot but (obviously) couldn't remember what.
did you find it easier to get GR-2's for the lanos over the Lemans? here in the states i've found it to be the other way around.

you kind of reiterated what i said though being in the states, iv'e never seen a 1.5 lanos.the Lemans GSE/GSi is the same as the lanos.

i can see that the lanos rotors got ventelation area at the rim side where as the the other rotor doesn't... i guess this is favoring the lanos rotors.

that seems to be the easiest way to do thing when it comes to our cars.GsiTurbo wrote:...about shocks, I just order them by the p/n from the local supplier
as far as the rotors go... yes if you are building a base model Lemans i would recommend using the Lanos/Lemans GSE rotor (they are the same) with the Lanos calipers.
the Lanos/GSE rotor is also thicker which along with the vents help to reduce heat affects.
