wheel/hub spacers

is it just me... or do all stock lanos wheels seem like that are an inch or two too far inside the wheel arch.

a while ago i saw a lanos with a slightly wider than average track... and was wondering if this is done simply by adding spacers to the hubs or if some other modification is required.

if you are talking about hte front then yes... they seem to bee a bit too far on the inside.

when i purchased my rims....they added spacers all round to make my wheels stick out further...looks mad...

They added spacers all the way around on mine too...but it was because of clearance issues. The wheels barely rubbed against the brake calipers so they put on a 1/8 or 1/4 inch spacer (don't remember which one)to avoid it rubbing.

well... sounds like a plan then. might try and find 1/2" spacers... if not then probably 1.4". won't be till i have it lowered tho, incase there are some clearance issues.

found out why the wheels seem so far in towards the wheel arches. The stock 5-spoke daewoo alloys that I have have a positive offset of about 38mm.
so for my next wheels i'm gonna try and find ones with a lower positive offset or possibly zero offset. no need for spacers then.

My wheels have a 35 mm offset if I remember correctly...the reason spacers were used on it was because of the wheel rubbing the brake caliper. It looked fine with the wheels alone but i had to get the spacers and it actually did make it look better. Just be careful not to get to far off on the offset. It will cause your car to drive funny and probably not be very safe. Your tires might also start rubbing the fenders. On the back fender you can find a small piece of metal (about the size of half a quarter) toward the front of the fender that sticks out into the wheel well. I had to grind it off cause it was cutting the tread on my tires once I got rims.

nice... they kinda remind of the RS Watanabe rims used on the AE86 from Initial D...

Saab make a very similar wheel to that, and they might be old skool but i love them. might hav to look for some.

Now Dats what I'm talking about, Old skool with a new twist. The 8 spokes came out in the 60's and were originally made as Minilites.

Plenty of copies availble now though, i think our Auzzy mates could assist us here as the Superlights are quite a good copies of the old 8 spoke Minilites and made in Auz.

I must admit though the 5 spoke rims Jimmy has also looks the biz.

Myself I just got a quote from the local Tiger Wheel and Tyre yesterday for a set of 18's with 215/35 Pirellies for R6600. thats about us$912. Tempting, very tempting. just have to of load the 17's first.

R6600 for a set of 18"ers aint half bad. thats about £500... over here anyone would be more than lucky to get a set of 18" wheels for that price.

You'd be suprised what you can get if you shop around for wheels. I've bougth several slipstreams and gotta set of 17x7.5" slipstreams for $455 shipped to my door and they're only 17lbs. I also got a set of 17x9" 5zigen 17.8lbs ea wheels for $1600 shipped with 255/40 toyo R-1s (R compond track tires, very expensive) and hub centric rings....the wheels shipped alone were prob only 1k usd.

Living in Pinetown, just outside Durban, (But originally from Northern Ireland - 1981)

Unfort our very poor exchange rate and the high duties charged by our government mean that stuff that is so so so available to the guys in the states just ends up costing us a fortune.

Having said that, I am more than pleased to pay the R6600 (£460) for the 18's WITH the Pirelli tyres.
