Hey everyone, and sorry fi Im posting this on a wrong forum.
I have a 01 Leganza, and I cannot open the hood. This sucks because I havent even been able to check the oil !!!
I looked from below the bumper and tried pulling the cable, but nothing.... then I had someone pull on the open hood latch (is that how u call it?) and I could see the cable was not even moving...In fact, its not even tensioned.
I have I tried searching here, but the search engine seems to be useless....got like 70 pages and nothing really specific..and its just ridiculous to browse through 70 pages of posts trying to find one simple answer..
This is my first post but I have been visiting the forum regularly for the past month, and I know some ppl here know a lot about this cars.
So is there anything I can do to fix this by myself? Or am I gonna have to go to a mechanic and pay whatever he charges for the fix
Thanks for ur time!

if the cable is broken then you got to manually free the lock... this is going to be a bitch as the grill is blocked at this area... try a thin, long screw driver.

I have a lanos, but if i remeber correctly, the cable that goes to the hood release mechanism goes through the inner left hand side of the engine compartment, and then moves up to the tip of the engine bay behind the left light and then down in front of the radiator. If i can i will see if i can get a pic of the hood release mechanism itself to see if that can help you get it open quicker, it would have to be sometime tomorrow though, or id look through the gallery and see if you can find a good pic of it so you can see how it operates yourself.

If you see, it not that good but thats the placement of the latch and the components.. i would suggest to look at the engine forum for some pics about radiators or something like that to get a close up of the mechanism, i am sorry if i can't get you a desriptive pic, a family memeber had unexpectantly borrowed my camera so i cant help you get to it at this moment.. ... but in the meantime, i would as a suggestion, see if you can see the latch from under the bumper with a flashlight see if you can take a hanger and attach and pull it to unlock.. i am just trying options.

Thanks man. Really appreciate it!
Heres what happened:
The cable got damaged and was disconnected from the spring mechanism, which is why I couldnt open the hood even if I pulled it from under the bumper.
I passed by a mechanic and some guy helped me out. He unscrewed the hood latch through the grill openings, and the hood popped open. However, we couldnt open it fully because it was still attached to the cable, and the cable was stuck. So he messed around with it until he freed the cable. Like I said, the cable is damaged so you cannot open the hood from inside the car anymore. He hooked the cable back to the spring so that I could open the hood by pulling it from under the bumper until I get a new one and put some grease on the latch as well to keep it lubricated...he told me to pay him whatevr I wanted so I gave him like $ 7 bucks cus it was all I had. He spent some good 20 minutes fixing it and fiddling around so I think I got a great deal.
I bought a used cable from ebay for $12 shipped, so I bought it. Should be here next week.....hope its not too hard to install!!!!! I'll see if I can try it myself...
