New wheels - part 2

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

Since I had such a miserable failure with my last wheels having the wrong offset, I am worried about buying another set that are wrong.
I do not want to waste money again and have my tires cut by the rear fender edges.

I will sell my old wheels locally, which only have a few months of use and no damage at all, for $200 or best offer and use that money toward a new set of wheels and tires.

TireRack.com has a set I really like and their web page says they will fit the Lanos.
They look as though they are offset so they will not scrape, so that is a major factor for choosing them.

Here are the full details:

Does anyone else know of any silver wheels similar to this patterh that they know will fit the Lanos hatchback with a lowered suspension?

Thanks!

Cliff

P.S. .... I decided to keep the Lanos and not sell it after all. :)[/img]

They are 100x4 bolt pattern, but the offset is wrong for a Lanos. The outter edges of the tires get sliced by the fender edge.
They will fit many other cars.

Here they are on my Lanos:

It really sucks they don't fit because they look good.

Lanos' stock offset is -49mm.... Regretufully there is only a handful of wheels with such offset over in Europe, not to mention North America. Your safest bet would be to get some wheels with 45 offset, or 40. On 17" wheels the width of the tire must not exceed 7.5.

Thanks for the offset info, Tom! :)

The wheels I am selling are 15" and I want new 15" wheels.
My reason for wanting 15" is the same as it was when I bought the others: 15" tires are less expensive to replace.

The wheels I have on now are 15x6.5 with 40mm offset and Eibach springs. Works perfectly.

When did you lower your Lanos? I remember you talking about it, but haven't seen any pictures of it finished 8)

I have not lowered it yet.
But since the car has 58,000 miles, I am not driving it until I change the timing belt.

While the car is not being driven, I am going to put it on jackstands and change the suspension my self; I have the tools and the ability. :)

Today on my way home from school I stopped by a store that sells wheels, tires and rolls fenders.
The guy at the store told me the wheels I have will fit if I roll the edges of my rear fenders up and said he would charge $100 per fender to roll them.

That price sounded too high, so I stopped at my friend's paint and body shop and he told me he would roll both rear fenders up for $10 !!!

I am dropping my car off with him on Saturday moring.

Now all I need to do is get new tires and install my springs and shocks.

8)

I am using 195/50/15 tires.

yep thats the correct tire size to use and i am confident that after rolling the fenders it will work great.

waiting forward for your feedback after the shocks and springs installation.

use a hammer to force the metal to roll... OK it won't look that nice when finished but who will look into the inside of your fender??
