what is the oldest tire you can put on your car? i mean if you are to buy a set of new tires today, what is the oldest manufacturing date that you can safly use on the car?
i only ask this as it was debated that the manufacturing date doesn't mean a thing but i beleive that newer tires are always better and thats why my GT Radial tires are dated 2405 but other people that got 0304 tires says it makes not difference so i want to be sure who is right and who is wrong here.

He has this calculator that is on his webpage. It will show you DOT code that tells you that you should change your tire now. Currently it stands at the time of this post:
DOT AGE CODE: 519
So anything later than this is fair game but you will be buying tires that are already old. Tires last only 6yrs whether you have them installed or not.
You use GT Radials? These are tires made in Indonesia. GT stands for Gajah Tunggal. Pretty popular with the taxis here. They are cheap. Currently our market has been swamped with many budget tires. Amtel Planet from Russia is available. So is the Indian made Apollo Amazer series. Firenza has long been here but feedback is not that great. No silica compounds on them. The coveted buy now is the Barum Bravuris which stood in the middle of the pack of 20 tires tested by Autoexpress.

Re: Tires manufacturing date
Well, in all honesty, there will be little difference between your friends tire made in the 3rd week of 2004 and yours made in the 24th week of 2005.mmamdouh wrote:what is the oldest tire you can put on your car? i mean if you are to buy a set of new tires today, what is the oldest manufacturing date that you can safly use on the car?

If I were purchasing tires, I would try to make sure they were the most recent manufacturing date possible. The best way to avoid old tires is to deal with bigger retailers of tires, because their inventory turns much more.
Just try to avoid buying tires more than 2 years old I guess...
It's kinda funny that the Barum Bravarius is a big thing over there, at my store it was the entry level high-performance tire.
