Rather pleased

Post by woo »

i got my car back from the smash repair place today (i had some guy.. rear end me, just a scratch though) and they did a good job on the new bumper. I also got them to de badge the car and it looked sweet BUT they left the symbol on the bonnet and on the boot. So naturally i got out there with a screwdriver, bottle of wax, bottle of metho, blue crayon and a ciggarette lighter. After popping off the badges (the screwdriver had a rag around it to preven any scratchation) i cleaned the clue off with the metho, then melted some of the crayon wax into the holes left by the badges. After that i waxed over where the badge had been and it looks sweet as. I was a but worried that it might not look too good (like alot of badged cars i see) but appart from the 2 dots up front and 2 up back that are flat blue not metallic you cannot tell, so im happy as larry

edit: to save arguments i made an adjustment

Awsome. I would love to see pictures of your work.

I would like to remove all the badges on my car held on by adhesive only. Anyone have a step by step of this?

I'm just going to say it.... coon is used as a racist term for African Americans here. I hope that's not what you were suggesting.

I don't think I'd use the word "hated", but I'm sure there are some people that discriminate against them in the same manner that blacks and Mexicans are discriminated against in the states. I could be wrong...

See, in Bosnia, we don't discriminate. We hate everybody. No lie, it is the most racist country in the world.

technically it isnt racism if you hate everybody, because racism is predjudice towards one race..

more or less, wrap a screwdriver in a cloth (to prevent scratches), slip it under the badge and pull it off. Then put some metho on a cloth to clean off the glue, then wax over the top.. simple

A heat gun will also work -- loosen the adhesive under the badges, will soften up the badge itself as well -- use a plastic or ceramic knife or wedge to pop 'em off, avoids scrathing your single-stage (I hate it) paint job.

At that point run down your list of solvents (the guys mentioned a handful above) to get off any residue from the glue.

A friend of mine heads up the body shop at a Ford dealer, helped me with mine so I wouldn't screw it up. That glue was nasty stuff, he said he had never had to struggle with anything so stubborn before. Just as a heads up.

Because it is a single-stage paint, there may be a faint outline of where the badges were on your paintjob (because the factory apparently thought it would be a good idea to slap 'em on before the paint had completely set). Not much you can do to reverse it unless you plan on getting it repainted.

once the car gets a little dirty you cant see the outline
