Removing rear lights lens cover to change bulb?

Does anyone know how to remove the rear lights lens cover on a Lanos Hatchback to replace an indicator bulb? The book says to remove the 2 screws holding the rear lights and pull the unit forward to reveal the bulb holders and twist anticlockwise to remove them from the lens cover.

I've removed the 2 screws but the light unit only moves forward a small amount and not enough to get at the bulb holders. Any tips appreciated.

Why would you have to remove the lense? You should be able to change the bulbs from within the trunk.

You can access the reversing light & fog light bulb from the rear of the tailgate (Hatchback model) but you can not access the indicator & tail / brake light bulb from within the trunk.

when you take off the screws just push it a bit til it does move then just mess with it until it comes off. its held on like this. there are two more screw looking things that slide back and forth and there will be a hole big enough for the screw things to let go.

the slot looks like this:

well its a bit crude and it would actually go sideways but i couldn't think of another way to put it on here. so it would slide until it hits the opening to lift out of there. hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I will have another look tomorrow when it's light. I'm glad I stopped as I'm sure I would have ended up forcing it and breaking the lens!

Are we talking about removing the taillight assembly here? If so, for the left taillight, after unscrewing 2 srews, push it to the left till it comes off. And like Nick said you have to play with it. For the right taillight you have to push it to the right.

wow, that's alot of work just to change a bulb. Good thing on the sedan all the bulbs are easily changed from within the trunk.

its actually not that hard at all just two screw and you just have to push and pull. just to explain it without pics makes it a bit longer.

I replaced the bulb today. It is very easy once you know the technique as you described but I bet there are many people who have chipped the lens trying to force it off! I think it is a bad design on the Hatchbacks as you should not need to use tools in order to simply change a bulb. I changed both bulbs on each side so they shouldn't need doing again for a couple of years or more.
