Roll Cage Fitment

Post by Stefan »

Well the roll cage finally arrived from Sparco last week and I've begun the trial assembly and fitment process. The cage is a six point one with full FIA approval meaning I can use the car on circuits (trackdays, drags, etc.) with the rest of the FIA safety stuff (seats are already approved, just need the harnesses).

So here's some pics...

I've got to weld in reinforcement plates on the floor pan for the roll cage mounts. The door bars have to be cut to length and the ends welded on (these aren't done by the factory because of chassis tolerances).
Once all the trial fitment, welding, etc. is done it'll be painted black to match the rest of the interior. It should stiffen up the chassis a treat making a good base for the suspension to work from :)

More pics as the fitment progresses.....

:D 2.2L ??? :D

How about 2.5L or 2.6L

I will hopefully have a 2.4L Crank sometime in the next few months  and it's possible I might give the engine a larger bore to match the longer stroke.

And I've decided to extend the deck with some Darton Centrifugal cast ductile iron sleeves.

The install will be "wet" which means I will bore into the water jacket and then secure the bottom end with hardblok to ensure a solid bottom end.

Intresting........are you going to use the crank from the Brazillian 2.4 version of the 8v? Or are you getting a custom one made?

You can pm me if you don't want the thread going off-topic.

If your wondering why it's red, that's just primer. Once it's fitted properly it'll be dissassembled and painted black.

Go to your nearest Sparco dealer and they should be able to provide you with an application and price list for their roll cages.

Did you fabricate that rear strut tower brace? I like how you did that, it's beautiful.

Yes I did. I have more pics somewhere on my computer showing its construction. I'll see if I can find them and put them in the album section. It was really easy to make, only took a couple of hours.
