Wheel Confusion...

Post by benzino »

Hi everyone. This is my first time commenting on this forum.
I recently got a 2000 Lanos 3 Door and want to change the wheels.
After pouring over the forums I found many people ask but no one really has an answer.
What I'm talking about is the magical and mystical topic of OFFSET
And like most newbies I am utterly confused.
I know that the stock 13s have an offset of ET49 or +49, but what I want to know is what the offset changes to if I move up to a 7" wide wheel and also if I need to add spacers to achieve a rub-free fit?

Bless me with your wisdom humble Daewoo experts ;)
Thanks
-Ben

and what about use of spacers?
I read about people going to Tempe tyres (in sydney) and they fitted spacers as well.

You don't need spacers if you buy the right wheel to start.

Let me know the width of your stock wheels and I can tell you what you want for a 7" wide wheel. You said the stock wheels offset was +49 right?

I know you meant for the Lanos m8, I just always thought they were the same as most opels and aswell as my nexia, which is +49. I just assumed it was for some reason

The wheels are just the stock 13's so I think they are 5.5" wide (or are they 5"??? :? ).
I'm sure if I sat down and drew it all out I could work it out, but I just guessed someone would've already done it seeing that most people change the wheels as their first modification...

Just spoke to the guy at the wheel shop where i bought my 18s. they are 7" wide and run a 38 ET.

There ya go Ben. If he had those fitting with 18s then that's probably about the best offest for a 7" wide wheel

yeah thanks!
Is ET38 very common though? I think ET35 wheels are more plentiful, and then would you use a 3mm spacer to get ET38 ???

I just gotta say as well, I love this forum, of all the forums I have been a member of, this has got to be the best...
Maybe it's because Daewoo drivers are so nice!!!

tbh, you'd be best sticking between et40-49 for clearance purposes. Also, et35s, because they pretrude so much, can put strain on your wheel bearings. Especially if they're a large wheel, like 17's or 18's. Dry steering definatly wont help this either lol.

I never did get how a spacer makes a wheel sit in more...

My 7x17's were 35ET and caught the rear arches.
