Suspension is terrible

Post by norbie »

When driving my car it really doesn't like bumps, it's terrible!
Driver and passengers get thrown all over the place round corners and suspension often squeaks after people have got into the car or the weight's changed, and it's very wobbly when going over bumps in roads!

What can I do?

Do you have aftermarket rims that are bigger than the original size or lowering springs. Cause either will make it VERY bumpy. And theres not much you can do but get better seatbelts and softer seats :D :D :D

Yes I do have 16" alloys. I didn't realise they would make so much difference!
I don't have lowering springs but was wondering if I replaced the suspension with performance shocks and lowering springs if it would make it less bumpy?

how old are your current shock absorbers?
did you check control arm bushings?
did you check the anti sway bar busings and connections?

Yes uprating the suspension will make a big difference but saying that the ride might be a little more harsh, i have found that daewoo suspension is a little boaty for rural driving on uk roads. The body roll is severe but of you want a suspension kit www.potn.co.uk offer these.

Strut Kit -- http://www.potn.co.uk/-_c1473_1704_1781 ... 275078.htm
35mm Lowering Spring kit -- http://www.potn.co.uk/-_c1473_1589_1590 ... 250100.htm

Hope this helps

Hi batteryops,

What wheels and suspension do you have on your car?
I didn't know you could get kits for our cars, I was looking at the Astra kits.

then get those parts checked and replaced if necessary, worn shocks will kive wobbly ride and worn bushings will affect how the suspension behaves and sounds as well.
