Sorry Mocpac, i do not agree with u. Control arm bushes will make a loud clunking sound when worn. The metal inside the bushes move on the K-frame, caasing such a sound.

Another thing to check also is your bearing plate at the top of the strut. To check it jack the car up and turn the wheel left to right. If it is a bearing u should be abkle to hear a grinding type noise when turning the wheel.

I had a clunking noise and it turned out to be a CA bushing... the front passenger side specifically... How I could tell mostly... other then the clunk... was that it had torque steer under throttle load... After replacing the bushings... I still had a slight clunking noise... Until I read the FSM and realized I had not torqued the nut properly... 91 ft/lbs. it calls for (you might just check yer torque on those bolts and see if they've come loose)... after doing that... the noise was gone... Oh and those little sleeves on the rear bushings are a bitch when trying to get the CA's off (What's the trick at getting them out ?)... and there's two sleeves (stacked) in each rear bushing on the CA's... Mine was missing one as well... some fine previous mechanic didn't feel it was necessary to put it back in
