Alignment with weights - do I really need the weights?

Firestone told me to go to the BMW dealer to get 99 Nubira aligned.
I went to Sears, they did the alignment but without the 75-kg weights on front seats.

Thouse weights are they that necessary? Would it work without them?

the weights are suposed to represent you. if they werent in ther then your car would only be aligned perfect if it was ghost driven. so yes they are kinda important

Hmmmm....thats what i suspected.
So I could just get in the car and let them align it.
I always drive alone. That might work.
