Hey guys
I ahve stock 175/75 R13 stock wheel on my car at the moment..does anyone kow if 185/75 R13 will fit straight onto the stock rims???
If so is there any downfal to doing this??

not sure what car you got with 175/75/13 tires 'cause my lanos came with 175/70/13 but anyways the tires you are asking about will fit the rims you got.
the tire size is consists of 3 numbers:
1- contact patch width in millimeters...in your case it is 175mm ---> 17.5 cm, this measurments directly affects your grip during acceleration, braking and cornering.
2- profile which is the length of your side wall (i.e. the distance between the road and the rim when tire is fitted) but this is not the actual lenght, it is a percentage of the tire's width so in your case your side wall is 0.75 x 175= 131.25 mm, this measurment affects your cornering stability as well as ride comfort.
3- rim size in inches so you got 13" rims and accordingly any tire you will fit on those rims must have a 13 at the end of it
concerning the tires you are considering:
they will fit the rims you got since it is made for a 13" rim, the extra10mm in contact patch will improve your handling (acceleration and braking) but since you are having a high profile the cornering ability will suffer a little bit... the ride comfort will improve though.

nope... not necessarly.
rim width is always written on the rim itself and in your case i guess it is 5.5 inch, you can check the tire manufacturer catalogue to see what is the recommended for rim width for that particular tire.
personally i don't think it will be an issue at all as 10mm is not that much of an increase to make you worry, you can always get sporty rims with like 6" width or so but personally i don't see that yuo really need to replace your rims with regards to the upgrade you are considering.

grip and handling wise yes but what about weight?? i recon 17" rims are heavy not to mention the vulnerability to break them if you hit a pot hole or so.
my 2 cents are: 15" rims and 195/50/15 tire rated AA for traction.

it is kinda hard compromise... 13" will go faster but will handle much worse... 17" will grip like hell but good luck trying to go fast enough to challange its handling chartactristics.
i say rim size must be proportional to your power.

Going up one size like that will probably fit (the wheel, definately), but I dont think you should.
Are you buying this size because of a price difference or because you want more tire width? Either way, this size is not just 10mm wider, but fractionally taller. If it's not a recommended size from the factory I would find a different size. It's larger diamater will affect milage and acceleration negatively.

if you did go with that upgrade you will get the following:

2- less cornering stability due to the bigger side walls.
3- more comfortable ride due to the bigger side walls.
4- more top speed due to the bigger rolling diameter.
5- less acceleration due to the bigger rolling diameter and most probably the extra weight as well.
6- your speedo will be off by 2.43% so when you are doing 70mph you are actually doing 71.7mph.

It depends on your power to weight ratio. If you have a car that doesnt make much power to begin with small changes do make a big difference. In this same way, smaller, lighter pulleys will "free up" so much power on our cars.
To be honest I dont know what the OE size is on his car. It can easilly be determined by reading the tag that is 90% of the time on the inside of the drivers door area. I would never go to a lager diameter than from the fatory on a low power car.
And, if he does alot of stop and go, he will most likely see a difference in milage.
