Forenza / Reno / Lacetti rust profing

Post by GsiTurbo »

Found this interesting article on ways these cars are protected against corrosion.

***********

Many questions came with the offensive of winter in the address of our site:
"are zinc-coated Chevrolet Lacetti, Tacuma, Evanda"? And it is necessary whether to make anticorrosive working after purchase?
It published the maps of the electrolytic platings of the bodies of these automobiles.
Chevrolet Evanda
Those details, which are not covered, are noted red. Bottom - is prepared from hot-galvanized sheet steel (Zn Fe), and sides (yellow) - have the galvanic protection Zn Ni.
For information hot-galvanized thinly sheet steel with coating Fe -Zn for the automobile construction is very expensive construction material, since the vacuum degassing of steel for the purpose of a reduction of carbon content to 0,002 %. it lets out the leading steel companies of peace ("Arselor" - France, "the Thyssen-Krupp"- FRG, "Nippon Stil" - Japan).

Chevrolet Tacuma
Green are noted surfaces izgotovlenye made of hot-galvanized sheet steel (Zn Fe), pink - they are zinc-coated by Zn Ni, white - they are not covered.

I'm pretty sure that all the Korean made Chevy cars are now using galvanised body panels, everything except the roof from what the dealership was telling me. This includes the Optra, Epica, and Aveo. I would assume this means that all the other rebranded models of the same cars would be the same, this means the Reno, Forenza, Verona, Lacetti, Wave, Swift+, etc. I think this is a new process that GM has started to use, so pre-GMDAT models probably will not have these galvanised panels.
