Transaxle making some funky sound!

Hi All,

I swapped both my Left & Right Tansaxle's on my Cielo 97 SOHC 5 speed manual on the weekend! For the 1st few days it drove like a dream. But today on my drive into work it is making some crazy bumping noises.

Now the worst time is when I am slowing down via the gears without using the brakes. When I am increasing speed, the noise disapears or is occassionaly heard.

When I put the new axles in I made sure they were firmly pushed in so a to clear the circlip & I bought the axles from a reputable dealer.

I am stuck at work for another 6 hrs but I will jack the car up & pull the wheels off before I leave to see if they may have slipped out of the housing. Does anyone else know what could be causing the noise?
