CV and clicking noises

Post by NubiraDellwoo »

I searched some but didn't find a specific answer...

In reference to my '01 Nubira 2.0 SE @ 89,000 miles

I have a clicking sound that seems to be emitting possibly from the CV's... But only when they are cold... after they warm... it seems to diminish some... Odd thing is... it that that same clicking noise is emitting from the rear of the car as well... And there's no axles there to blame that on... I notice this sound mostly backing out (reverse) of the garage when it's cold... a few blocks down the road (forward) I don't hear the rear clicking anymore... But the CV's still make a little noise when turned at full lock...

I'm just wondering if the wheel bearings are the real culprit here... And what the life expectency of the wheel bearings are on these cars ?

Another odd sound when it's cold... is as I'm first driving it and hit a dip in the road... the compressed suspension makes a scraping type sound... it only does it once... and then I don't hear it again... Well until the next cold start anyhow... It has something to do with the compression of the suspension... But it goes away after that intial noise... Any ideas here ?

Who makes a CV rebuild kit for the Nubira... or is it better to replace the whole axle as well ?

I've recently replaced all the control arm bushings (front), gel motor mount to solve even worse drivability issues... soon as I think I'm on top of it... more stuff seems to come along... sigh

Oh and a little off this topic... the rubber on these cars bites the big one... I can smell burning/hot rubber when the engine is warm... I have replaced the crankcase vent tube as it basically melted or wore through due to heat and vibration... Does everyone have this issue with the hot rubber burning smells ? It's really noticable when the the vent is in the open position... sigh

Sorry to make this so long...

Thanks for any insight...

Not sure about the CV joints but clicking is a sign of wear on em.

Although, I have 112K miles on my Lanos and they are fine.
Your mileage is not all that high for bearings to be worn out.
The burning rubber smell could be coming from a new accessory belt if you installed one recently ?
I guess this isn't all that much help. If it was me ? I would have a reputable front-end professional look at it.
