So how hard is it to remove a transmission and install a new one? I've looked at my service manual and it doesnt seam hard but a bit tricky. My biggest concern is if I mess up...or realize I don't know what I'm doing then I'm stuck and have no one to help me. Any special tools required? Anything I need to know? Also how hard is it to replace the slave cylinder?
Then my last questions is what do I have to do to put an F28 into my car? Ideally I wanna convert it to a hydrualic clutch, how do I do that?
Thanks for any input,
Danny
btw...my shop wants $700+ to replace the slave cylinder cuz they have to pull the transmission. Though my sycros and everything dont have much life so I was just gonna bring over an F28 now and put it into my car rather than buying a new 5sp and eventually doing the F28 swap.
Installing/pulling a tranny; recommend me doing it? F28 Q?

Hi danny..... my F28 and your race axles arrived today.
Overall... the F28 doesn't look all that different from the F16 at first glance.
Moving the D20 Quaife LSD over to the F28 might be quite a bit harder.... it looks like the entire F28 case has to be disassembled to get at the differencial.
The input shaft on the F28 is way bigger and different splines (so a calibra 2.0L turbo clutch is required )
Removing your D20 and replacing your slave cylinder is relatively easy if you have a lift..... without one it's a bit tricky.
You have to remove it from the bottom..... or remove both the engine and tranny as a whole unit.
Replacing the slave cylinder is extreemly easy.... but to be honest I think it would be better if the slave cylinder was external.
So my suggestion is to see if we can come up with a design where the release bearing is operated via shaft movment ( cable style ) and then have an external slave cylinder move the shaft instead of using a cable.
This way if you blow the slave cylinder it's a 15 minute fix.... and the clutch would become "simpler"
This would be ideal for the F28..... since it's cable driven in most models ( I think some of the newer onces used a slave cylinder... but I don't know if it's external or internal )
It started snowing again here but it's suppose to warm up by mid week..... so later on this week or on the weekend I will go hunting for an external slave cylinder in the scrap yards.
I also found out that the D20 is definitly made in Korea by Daewoo Motor Corp...... which explains why some people say it isn't as strong as the older european F20 gearboxes.

Yeah, my goal is to have my dual boost controller with two tunes, one at about 330 crank and the other with as much as I feel is needed for the corners on the track. Soon as I hit the straight I switch my boost controller to high boost and take off. I also wanted a 6sp...my 5sp tops out at 145mph which is far too low. I should be hitting 130mph with a good n/a tune on the straight at CA speedway. I'd be boosting low boost already but I'm having n/a headers, test pipes, and cat-backs made and need to dyno test them and whatnot before I sell them. Plus my R34 kit isn't done to fit my intercooler.daewoomofo wrote:this is kinky we are talking about, of course hes gonna have silly turbo power.Efrain A. wrote:you planning silly turbo power ?
I KNOW! Tom told me already Now I dont have to take it easy cuz I'm afriad of breaking another axle!PrecisionBoost wrote:Hi danny..... my F28 and your race axles arrived today.

I ordered a 6 puck clutch with 900lbs pp for an F28 along with all the other clutches so I'm prepared! He said the 6 puck + 900lbs pp would handle the power I plan on making easyily so it'll be a nice step down from the 1200lbs pp I've been using.
I'd love it if the slave cylinder was external, like I've said in another topic this is the 2nd slave cylinder I gotta replace and the first time I had the stock clutch/pp. All in all do you think putting the F28 in with my LSD is something I can figure out without screwing up? I dont have a lift unfortunitly but can safly jack up the car pretty high. I wanna try to tackle this, cuz If I dont force myself to learn now I probably never will.
