Lanos 3dr 1.5 canadian
I have two questions, and let me preface this by stating I spent a couple hours on here last night looking for the answer because I didn't want to be embarrassed by 'its already here, just search' responses
I have a Canadian Lanos 1.5 - are the rotors and pads the same as those in the 1.6?
All of the parts companies, even the Canadian based online ones only list the 1.6 Lanos as an option
I read in here that the rotors are identical to the Lemans, but what model and year specifically?
Any other help and or advice would be appreciated, especially for the slotted rotors if avail.
Thanks

Your rotors will be either 156mm diameter vented, or 136mm diameter. Both are interchangable with the Lemans...bigger one from 89 Lemans 2.0, and smaller ones from 90+. I have a pair of each sitting in my basement, so send me a pm if your are interested.

I have a 1.5 Cdn model as well. Dont get the ones from the 1.6, it wont fit.
actually, 136mm sounds about right.
I just resurfaced them at cdn tire for 15 bucks apiece, they werent warped or anything.
I bought a set for a 1.6 thinking it was all the same crap, imagine my disappointment.
Anyone want to buy slotted/drilled rotors for a 1.6? PM me

I'm stuck with the same problem.
the 1.5L 99 3 door canadian lanos uses the same brake pads as the Daewoo Nexia.
A lot of people here will tell you otherwise, but there are three models of brake pads and
two models of rotors for Lanos...
They are almost the same as the TEVES pads for the 1.6 but they are smaller.
The 1.6 ones were designed with 14 inch wheels in mind..
The ones we have are for 13 inch wheels (even if your car probably has 14 inch wheels).
SOLVIT sells them for 150$ shipped. (CDN)
I was able to find an e-bay seller that could ship them from europe for 80$ (CDN) but I would LOVE to find a better source...
maybe someone on this forum from another country could get the nexia pads, who knows..
For the rotors, look for the LEMANS rotors... the smaller ones fit fine, I was able to get a set for 30$ CDN..

Just found a part # for you.
EBC pads DP 940
or DP 2940 if you want a better quality..
If *anyone* can get these cheaply to canada, it would be much appreciated!

I just replaced front pads and rotors on my 99 Lanos 1.5 4dr.
I used Eurorotor pads and discs.
Part #s
Pads:D688
Discs:GM-204
I got them at Autoimport in Ottawa, but they must have other dealers/distributors in Canada.

not 100% sure but i think the front brake setup for a 1.5 lanos is the same as the one on the matiz... no wonder it sucks.

Sorry for the late reponse, but life is busy.
I converted my 3dr 1.5 to the Pontiac Lemans 2.0 brakes - calipers and rotors, whith great advice and help from Tom GSI Turbo
So far it been fantastic - the pull on these larger discs is phenominal and after speaking to a few friends I've actually gone with regular organic pads - the reasoning is that with these much larger discs, you also have a much larger contact area and the slotted rotors give better cooling, so, use regular pads because you will still have better braking and the organic pads cause less wear on your discs
So far, its a great combo
one peice of advice - when converting to the Lemas rotors, you will need to do some minor grinding on the spindle to allow the corners to clear the inside of the rotor, allow a little more clearance than you would initially think - as the braking system heats up, the spindle edges will get closer to the inside rim and make contact. THis happened to me in the middle of a braking manouver and it sounds like hell, and will scares the bejeezus out of you.
Cheers,
Jeremy
