lemans trans in lanos

ok so ive heard that you can put a manual transmission from a pontiac lemans in to a daewoo lanos. i figured that if this is true it will be my cheapest way to make my car a manual. but before i go and get a parts car i need to ask a few questions.

1. what year lemans should i get for a donner car?
2. what engine should the donner car have (so that it has the same bell housing bolt pattern)?
3. are the transmission mounts the same between the lemans and lanos
4. will the lemans axles work on the lanos?
5. will i need the ECU from a manual lanos, or can i just fool mine to work?
6. are ther any other things you all think i should look for?

if any one can help it is greatly apreciated. thank you in advance

1988-1993 Pontiac Lemans all versions 5spd (beware of 4spd F13 gearbox). The gearbox you want will have F16 stamped next to the turret.
Replace all input shaft seals.
Also, 1993 - 1995 Asune LE

Engine will be either 1.6 SOHC or 2.0 SOHC.
Questions 3 and 4=> YES

5. will i need the ECU from a manual lanos, or can i just fool mine to work?

Hmm...the car will run, but with an idle of about 1300rpm if u use ECM from auto Lanos.

The only problem I see is the speedo. F16 uses mechanical speedo cable, while the D16 has electronic pickup. You will have to get the sender from Lanos 5-spd.

a friend of mine used to have a lemans and he sayed that it had a 2.2 in it , would he be full of sh_t of is that an engine option also. if so would his car have worked for a donner car?

or a sender from an Aveo. The aveo will probably be eaiser to find

The 2.2L is a possibility.... but he would have had to have removed it from a Leganza for the story to be true.... since the 2.2L didn't show up until then.

Also.... the F16 from the Lemans is cable driven..... which is the main difference between the Lemans F16 and Lanos D16.... the Lanos D16 has a hydraulic clutch system.

Not really a big deal..... the cable driven clutch is probably easier to set up and the hydraulics of the Lanos make the clutch feel soft.... you can feel the F16 as it takes more effort to engage/disengage the clutch.

Oh.... I don't know if you guys got the Asuna versions in the USA.... for some reason I thought that was only in Canada..... I think the USA kept the "Lemans" name throughout the history of the vehicle.

You should be able to pick up an entire Lemans for cheap..... they weren't a very popular car and most are in the scrap yards by now.

Chris, clutch cable feels soft too.

but with my clutch gets kinda bad under traffic jams.

btw, as far im aware on the tranny side the cable and hydralic systems are interchangeable

yeah i was thinking about jusut getting a rusted out lemans, i can probly get one fot about $400 or less, most of them are about dead now so no one wants them any more
