Problem with shifting 2000 Lanos HB 45000 miles

Post by Slammed »

I have recently started driving my woo on a daily basis and I noticed that my gear box (man Trans) makes alot of vibration noises and 3rd gear with the boot on hits the console not allowing me to fully engage 3rd gear so I have to hold it there untill I need to go to 4th gear I took it all apart and dont see anything wrong !! the only solution I have come up with is to take the boot off and it works fine .... I have tried to move the console forward but cant because all the brackets dont move they are strong I have enclosed some pics so that maybe you can see something I cant

In the last pic I just want to know what that is please thanks (if its for the airbag if I disconect it will it reset?)

just create a cool refabbed center console, I think it would look better and you might actually be able to add some functionality(ie cup holders)

check on the fire wall where the metal pole protrudes and links to the shifting mechanism on the tranny case... their should be a 12mm bolt that fixes the pole to the mechanism.

if this screw or bolt is lose it will cause free play and make the shift stick feel funny... some people have that in other way where they report that they cant get the car to engage reverse as they always end up in 1st gear.

Ok I have checked and there is a umm what I would call a buterfly type thing at the end of the metal rod into the engine bay and it has alot of play but there are no screws or bolts so what can I do ?? is there a bearing in that ??

butterfly?? its always a standard issue bolt... anyways the point is to tighten it so that you got no play, just remeber to do that with the stick in the correct place in relation to the tranny gear.

in other words make sure the tranny is in neutral and the stick is centred in the neutral position as well before you tighten things up or you will have funny stick placment on all gears.
