No transmission fluid!

Post by bluecube »

Hey everyone. For the past year or so that I've owned my Cielo 5sp i have always thought that the clutch was on its way out. So today I decided to check the tranny fluid level (only just found out where the correct filler plug is). There was literally very little fluid in the transmission! I put in 1.5L of fluid and the fluid level didnt even come up to the bottom of the filler plug as it should. The whole transmission only holds 1.8L! I have been reluctant to put any more fluid in as I don;t want to over fill it. So in the end I dont think there was anything wrong with my clutch at all, it was just when the little bit of oil in the tranny got real hot that the clutch pedal felt like the clutch was hot. Even with such a low fluid level the tranny never made any abnormal noises or anything.

Has anyone else has this problem?

i always had the tranny fluid to the correct level for the past 70000 kms and now my tranny whines as hell... i just can't understand them trannys

anyways fill your tranny to the max and keep a watchful eye on the level to make sure you are not leaking.

Yeh I guess I should fill it up the rest of the way. Just a bit scary to realise there was no fluid in it at all. Its strange that the filler plug is on the top of the tranny and not on the side. But the manual says its the right one.

The capacity of 1.8L sounds about right. I used almost two full 1l bottle to fill up my F20.

If you dont have any external leaks, I would remove the lower shield and inspect for oil contamination. The oil might be escaping via the input shaft o-ring seal. This one is NOT fun to replace :(
