How to identify close ratio and wide ratio trannys?

i saw this somewhere in the forum but i can't find it anymore so can someone be kind enough to tell me how to identify an F16 wide ratio tranny and an F16 close ratio tranny??

in Egypt we got the close ratio one on out 1.5 SOHC lanoses and the wide ratio on the 1.6 DOHC nubira... the reason i am asking is that i might be needing to buy a tranny and i want to make sure i got the close ratio one.

the best i can do for you is give you the way to find the final drive ratio... you'll have to look up specs on each tranny to figure out which one is which from this...

the final drive ratio is stamped on the plate cover. might be hard to see on corroded aluminum... but use steel wool or a wire brush and you whould eb able to make it out

that appears to be the widest tranny we know of... the F20 with the 3.94 ratio at the back

check out the post i linked to... it's erfinder going through theoretical speeds on each tranny. it shows the final ratio for each one as he shows the speeds
