Transmission Fluid

Would it be worth changing to some kind of racing synthetic fluid? I think this would make some more power to the wheels as its less resistance in the tranny. I've heard some cars dont do well for one reason or another with really slick fluid because it causes slipping of some sort. Whats your guys input?

Automatic or Standard?

The automatic already got some non-standard fluid in it that can't be replaced with Synth DexronIII like I did to my other car.

Aside from better "shift feel" in low temps (-20 to -30C), it did not make much difference once warmed up. I just used it since I had a car known to gum up valves in the trans. After paying my first repair, premium price for Synth is esaily justified.

throw in some high performance gear oil... especially if you plan on the lsd swap.

for the fsae car last year we got to test some experimental gear oil from valvoline, set to be used in nascar... the stuff had the consistency of vinegar but we spilled one and were sliging all over the place... the coefficient was crazy low.

but yes... swap out for some high performance transaxle fluid/diff fluid

What fluid would you recommend? Yes i do plan on the Quaife lsd, either in about a month or like 8 months

i can't tell what to use but i know you shouldn't use PWS oil.

Yes, redline is the one to go with. I should be able to get it too

If my memory serves me well, my F20 took 2.3 litres or so...dont ask me how much it is in fluid ounces LOL.

Ive heard equal things about redline and royal purple.. but i rather go w/ redline cause they sponser alot of the local events... plus all the other fluids i use are redline.

go with teh 70w90... it's fine. if you feel you need it, bump up to the 80w140 (i know it says it's for trucks but it's actually good for fwd vehicals where the torsional loads of the dif are absorbed into the transmission housing)

Okay cool... i'll probably go w/ the 80w140. This will be okay w/ the lsd right?

Also do they flush the old tranny fluid out w/ the new stuff? in otherwords... should if buy more fluid than the tranny holds; if so how much?

the capacity is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5L, so buy more (like 1.5 times)

buy 4 quarts

2.5L (over shooting on that btw) is about .6 gallons, buy a full gallon of gear lube

that should be enough for a flush as well as a little extra incase the seal isn't perfect and you discover a leak in the first few days

and yes, that will work with the lsd just fine

Redline or Royal Purple heavy gear lubes are good. RP's Max Gear 75W90 is GL4/GL5 dual rated. Redline would be MTL or MT90. MTL is a 70W80 while MT90 is a 75W90. MTL and MT90 are only GL4 rated. All mentioned score over 100lbs on the Timken test. There is no need to add LSD additive for these lubes.

MolaKule from bobistheoilguy runs this outfit. The product from him will be MTL-R 75W90 which is GL4/GL5 dual rated. Dunno if it can go on an LSD but he can formulate it to be used on an LSD.

BTW, don't go with the 75W90NS or 75W140NS. These are GL5 rated. Not for gear boxes specifying GL4. If memory serves me right, GMDAT cars use gearboxes rated to use GL4 gear lubes only.

Even though RP Max Gear and MTL-R is dual rated, they are not corrosive to soft metals unlike a completely GL5 rated gear lube.
