brake thingy

Post by kinkyllama »

So i was playing with my car the other night swinging the back end out. Yes im able to do it with braking and the right technique. Anyways when i get the back end out and it starts sliding the "brake!" like comes on untill it gets traction again. The same brake light that comes on when the handbrakes on (btw i wasnt using the handbrake). Other times ive been starting to notice it come on is under extreamly hard cornering w/ cold/cool tires. It usually comes on right before the apex or right before i give it gas(which is usualy at the apex), the back end might be starting to slip out at that point also as on the street traction isnt that great and w/ a light back end its not ahrd to get it out a bit on corners before i give it gas. I dont have abs or anything like that.

Whats goin on here?

could be related to the G force affecting the brake fluid in the reservoir making it accumilate at one side so that the float sinks to the bottom and light on the warning indicator as if you ran out of brakes fluid.

Not other than stock.

Its getting worst now... it'll go on under heavy braking...medium turning, and regular shifting between 1-2 and 2-3

OK we need to get one thing clear here... is it a "brakes" problem or is it a "brake light problem"??

do you have any issues with your braking? is it weak, fading or uneven?? if your braking experiance is as good as ever then we need to troubleshoot the brake fluid level sending unit... it won't hurt to check the fluid level though as well as the sending unit's socket as well.

the unit is built into the reservoir cap... practically a float connected to the insid of the cap and you will be able to see a socket comming out of the top of the cap as well.

check the functionality of the float by moving it up and down and have a friend look at the brake warning light to see if it works when the float is at the bottom and only at the bottom... also check that the socket is clean and properly attached to the cap.

needles to say: take care... blakes fluid eat up paint fast so don't drip on the car... your car at least.

I cant check it all now as i dont have anyone to watch the light go on.

But my fluid looks really low... i think thats what might be dripping on my front left wheel that i talked about in another topic. Plus i just had my front calipers rebuilt

low fluid + big G force will trigger the warning light... refill and do a test drive if it works out fine then my explanation stands... you got to cure that leak fast though.

if it drips on the car it will remove the paint and damage the metal, and if you'll ever decide to fix it the paint will bubble or it will just drip away and doesn't stick on the car.

I know about this cuz here in Aruba they often do this. (Angry gf's)

the good thing about brakes fluid is that it is easly removed by water so if you drip you only need to wrins it with water but you have to do that before the fluid starts working on your paint.
